i've tried searching for good info about becoming an imp pilot, but i've found little. I don't play other flight sims so i took me a bit to figure out the very basics. Now, i've made it throught the 1st tier of the imp pilot and i'm stuck and need help, with basically no one on the server flying (and most people who are ace, hate it and don't like to fly), its hard to find good help.

1) i hear there is a difference between where you train (i'm training in tat). is there really a difference and what are they?

2) what ship/gear should i be using. currently i'm still using the starter ship. what is the suggested ship progression.

thanks.

Condensed version:

- Don't just read the Pilot FAQ sticky in the pilot forums, digest it.
- Memorize ship statistics. (see Pilot FAQ)
- Familiarize yourself with what Shipwrights can craft, and what is better looted and Re engineered.
- Buy a good joystick
- read up on atmopsheric/simulator flying. some principles apply, some don't. ( http://www.sci.fi/~fta/acmintro.htm )

Well first off teir 2 is all grinding. So your going to want to take your duty missions from your trainer and do what they tell you to do. Next I would suggest getting a heavy TIE fighter if at all possible. If you do manage to get one, stick with it all the way up to master, because it will save a lot of ship expenses. Outfit your ship with good sheilds so you can endure longer on your duty missions. Also think about familiarizing yourself with droid commands, because they can help you a lot through grinding. You will run into some tough missions in teir 3, so get to know another good pilot to help you along.

My bad.

But if that is the desire, i'd avoid the heavy tie. You wont learn anything from it.

i'm at work atm and can't look, where do you become cert'd for the heavy tie fighter? is it loot or buyable?

also, i'm having trouble completing the first tier 2 missions. do i really need to or is it more about grinding the xp?

thanks for your help so far.

The heavy tie is certed from tier 1, crafted by a shipwright but very costly.

Also I wouldn't say you don't learn anything in a heavy tie, you learn how to aim for one, thanks to it's single chinmounted gun... I had an easier time in my dunelizzard.

As to doing the missions: no missions, no training, no progression.
Jtl is different from the ground game in that yes it requires grinding exp but after training each skill there is a mandatory mission to do, as long as that isn't done you can grind all you want but you won't be trained again.
Tier 3 and master are special in that they do not require grinding at all, but are purely mission based.

You dont learn mass management very well in a heavy tie, and subsquently don't learn as much about ship parts.

1) Yes, there's a difference in where you train. On Tat, you're in Storm Squadron. Friends don't let friends take Storm Squadron for their first mastery ... you should probably think about starting over, and make your life easier in the long run.

2) For Imp, just use each ship as you're able (not the Bomber unless you like sluggish and without mass worries) or buy a Heavy TIE if you don't mind not learning about mass management. For gear, Weapons, Engines, and Shields are top priorities.

Ducimus said it far too nicely.

Everything asked here can be found in the Pilot Forum FAQ, plus more. I genuinly recommend going to that forum, this forum tends to be mostly misinformation, and doesn't have our fantatastic FAQ.
