I've been asked by Tiggs to update the FAQ for release. Please comment on anything you feel is missing that would be necessary for the Beginner to Intermediate JtL experience. Thanks!

1. Yay! I got my Jump to Lightspeed box in my hand! Err, What do I do?

- The first thing you are going to want to do is install the game. Then, go into the launchpad and when you see the option to register the expansion click on it and follow the instructions. Once you are done, you are ready to... Jump to Lightspeed!

2. Ok, I'm in the game. What now?

- Brand new players who have JtL installed get the option to start almost right on top of a Pilot Trainer. From there you simply talk to the trainer. Alternately, if you have an existing character and head to a starport, you should see a pilot standing right outside. If you talk to him he can guide you on your journey. The JtL experience is driven mostly by NPCs so get used to talking to them. Alternately, you can simply skip the pilot and open up the planetary map (Ctrl-V), look underneath the Trainer tab and find out where each of the three profession trainers resides. There are three on each planet, one for each profession, except for Corellia where the Imperial Faction is on its sister planet of Talus.

3. But can't I just get a ship and go into space?

- Not unless you talk to a trainer first. They give you the first box in your pilot profession and the cert for the entry level ships. You can't fly without this cert. They also give you your first ship.

4. Anything else?

- Yes actually. When you first log into the game you get three seperate emails, one for each profession. It's a little bit of flavor that helps bring you into the game a bit more. They don't immediately send you to a pilot trainer, but instead send you to someone else who can help you decide which path within each pilot profession that you wish to persue.

5. Path? What do you mean path?

- Each starter planet (Corellia/Talus, Naboo, Tatooine) has a different Pilot trainer with seperate dialogue and slightly different missions which represent the agenda that NPC is trying to push. For instance, if you choose to go as a Neutral Pilot then you can work for the Smugglers (Tatooine), the Royal Security Force (Naboo), or CorSec (Corellia).

6. Ok, I found my trainer and got my newbie ship and my mission. Now how to I leave the planet?

- In each starport there are multiple Starship Terminals. You use one of them to go out into space. Simply use the terminal, select the ship you wish to fly in, then click the button which reads 'Launch into Space'.

7. I'm in space! w00t! Err, now what?

- At this point it would be a good idea to find the manual and look up the keyboard commands. There's simply too many to list here. Also, after about thirty seconds or so, an ingame tutorial will pop up to help you get started on flying in space. Be sure to go through the entire thing as it's very informative. Once that is done, you can access some of what was taught in the Holocron (ctrl-H).

8. Where are my armor and shield indicators?

- If you look on your radar you'll see two sets of two half circles, one red and one blue. The Blue one represents your sheilds. The smaller red one represents your armor. The half circles on the bottom of your radar are the armor and shields to your rear, the half circles on the top of your radar are the armor and shield to your front.

9. And how do I use my radar?

- The position of the dot on your radar is the relative position of the ship to your current viewpoint. So if the dot appears to the right of the center, then if you move to the right you should see the dot move closer to the center. The closer a dot is to the center, the closer it is to being within your sights. The further away, the further you will have to turn to get it in your sights. If a ship is firing at you, then the dot will be flashing, allowing you to pinpoint who the miscreants are.

10. What do the color of the dots mean?

- The rules for determining targets applies in space as it does on the ground. Yellow are targets that you can attack but will not attack you without provocation. Red are targets that will attack you the moment they get a whiff of your ion engines. White you cannot attack. Capital ships and Space Stations will show up as Squares instead of Dots and group members will show up as Green dots.

11. Ok, I've got enough experience to train in a skill, where do I get trained?

- You won't be able to train in a skill until you finish the first four missions from your trainer. After that, he's the one who'll train you, and no one else.

12. You mean I can't get training from another player?

- Nope. Unlike the ground game, all Pilot professions don't take any skill points. So training is free, but you have to do what the trainer asks of you before he'll offer. On the plus side, for the sompletion of the first missions you will be trained in a box at no cost to experience.

13. I finished my mission. Now how do I land back on the planet?

- First, head back to the space station. If you open up the zonemap ('N' or /zonemap) you should be able to see a space station and then select the option to auto-pilot there. Once there, press 'C' to target the space station and either use '\' or /comm to open up the comm lines. Then just go through the menu to land at your starport of choice.

14. What do I do with all this loot and these credits from my kills?

- The loot can be used by Shipwrights to Reverse Engineer and make a slightly better item out of it. Then you can either sell the item or use it in a player made ship. The credit chips you can desposit into your bank. Just click on it and wait for the radial option to transfer to show up.

15. Ok, I'm 1/1/1/1 in my pilot profession, but my trainer is sending me to another planet. The newbie ship doesn't have a hyperdrrive, how do I get there?

- At this point you're going to need to purchase a player made ship. Find a shipwright to make you one.

16. I bought a ship but what do I do with this chassis blueprint thing?

- Go to a starport and find the Chassis Broker. Now talk to him and purchase your chassis. Make sure you have enough credits.

17. What? You mean I have to buy the ship twice?

- Yes. It's another one of those credit sinks that helps push money out of the game.

18. Ok, fine. I bought the chassis. Now what?

- Now you're going to need to outfit it with ship components. You'll need a reactor and an engine if you want to fly, a capacitor and some weapons to be able to shoot, and some armor and a shield if you want to survive being shot at. How this is all done is up to you to decide as there are many different ways in which to outfit your ship. But, know that you have a set energy rate (supplied by your reactor) and a set mass (set by the chassis). You cannot exceed either when outfitting your ship. Please note that past the Newbie level ships you most likely will not be able to outfit the top level equipment available to you. This is by design. It forces people to make hard decisions about what type of performance they want out of their starship. If you want a speed demon that can run circles around your enemy, then you probably won't be able to have the heavy firepower needed to do massive damage, and vice versa. Good luck!

19. Yay! I have a ship that can hyperspace! Now what?

- Now, in order to hyperspace you have to have a working ship. This means getting all the components necessary. I mentioned most of them in the above answer but you can see which ones you need by going to a starport and opening up the starship terminal. Select your new ship and choose the 'manage' option. From there, you simply select each component type and then the 'load' option to get it into your starship.

20. Why are some of my components greyed out?

- There is a set limit to the level of equipment you can work with. You can see this limit in your skills screen under the Certification tab. You can gain additional certifications by leveling up your piloting skills.

21. Ok, I have my ship outfitted. Now what?

- Now, zone into space and press ALT to get your cursor. Now press 'H' to bring up the Hyperspace screen. Select the system you wish to jump to, and then select the hyperspace point you want to arrive at. Note that you won't be able to jump straight to a starport from another sector. Now press the 'Hyperspace' button at the bottom of the window. It'll take some time for the calculations to be made for the jump, and once those are complete you'll get a small countdown and then you'll jump into hyperspace.

22. I heard certain ships can use Droids. Which ones?

- The Droid Engineer Correspondent should have a guide available for you to browse over. Try the Droid Engineer forum on the Official Star Wars Galaxies Message Boards.

23. So how does PvP work in space?

- PvP works a bit differently in space as opposed to the ground. There are no TEFs in space so both people need to be Overt. You have the option of turning Overt while in space by visting any of the faction specific space stations located around the space sectors. Beyond that, it's simply a matter of finding your enemies. There are two exceptions though. The first is Kessel, where everyone is attackable regardless of faction. The second is Deep Space, where you are forced to choose between fighting for the Imperials (Rebel pilots are not given this choice) or fighting for the Rebels (Imp pilots are not given this choice). You can then attack anyone from the other side.

For Imp's try Talus, last time I tried it the WP was a few thousand M out.

EDIT: That was for a starter character BTW. Going through the tutorial.

Technically you don't need a hyperdrive ship to get to another planet. You can use the 'travel' option to get to where you are asked to go. (correct me if I am wrong)

Your ship is parked at the last Starport you land at and doesn't follow you around when you go from planet to planet via shuttle. Hence they would need a hyperdrive capable ship in order to do the next level of missions.

Good FAQ Trayson. One point though, you don't need to hit ALT prior to hitting 'h' to bring up the hyperspace map. You just need to hit 'h'.

Interesting. When I used the travel option on the Ship-screen, it would 'travel' with me.

Exactly.. if you use the "Travel" option, you're taking your ship with you.

you can take your ship to the tier2 trainer - though he will tell you to get a player made ship before you can work for him.

there is another thing you might want to add.

the neutral paths have you pick determine the faction you can join in the PvP Systems.

RSF freelancers are biased to the Empire (so when you enter Kessel you will be imp)

CorSecs are rebel biased

Smuggler alliance are completely neutral (resulting in being attackable by BOTH factions in kessel)

at least thats what i remember.

not 100% sure if it will stay that way in live.
