Ok, this is an idea that I have had, and before anyone complains "Just go up that profession" and what not, read what I'm saying.
In RotJ the rebel spies stole an Imperial shuttle so that they could infiltrateEndor. Well if they were in SWG they would be SOL to put it mildly because you need to be certified to use a ship based off of faction and pilot skills.
What I'm proposing would be a master level certification "Stolen Technology"even if the certification you normally getwould be Tier 2 it will need a master of a different class. The Stolen Technology is a one time certification so you won't be switching over and over to try all the ships. If you were to switch pilot squads when you get master you would again have access to your ship. You could also change it so that when you drop master you lose the certification for that ship and when you get to master you would have to get the certification again.
I know you are now saying so we will now have Imps in X-wings and Rebels in Ties, BUT you have to ask how do I get the certification.
SMUGGLERS, They have been asking for a way to smuggle and this is a type of smuggling. It would have to be something that only a Master Smuggler would be able to do. They would have to get the certification for the ship from the pilot trainer for that faction, and of course the smuggler would have to bribe them to be able to get them to give up their technology, think about in the 500k range, you know technology doesn't come cheap. But on top of this the smuggler will have their price as well, so it may end up costing you 750k to fly this one ship.
What does anyone think of this idea, and please keep the "if you want to fly it go up that pilot tree" out of it, this is an idea for new content and skills.

interesting idea. Especially like the smuggler angle, to gain the cert.

I would like it.
It also, although crossing the perhaps current lines of balance, allows for one player of a faction to get access to a ship that they really like but couldn't use. An imp pilot being able to use an x wing which has a lot more mass and loadout, for instance.

Beautiful idea, tbh.
It'd need a certain amount of work as far as balance issues is concerned, but if it were me, i'd do this:
Master Smuggler "buys" certification for, say, a Lambda shuttle. 500k is a nice price range, i definately agree.
BUT! The only person that can buy the cert off the MSmuggler would be a master pilot of either Rebel or Neutered. I personally think that it goes against all canon for an imperial pilot to use reb/neu ships (altho in SWG no doubt they will want to, for "balance").
Also, just for kicks, i'd throw in a timer of some sort. Maybe a "usage count" in the same way that the vehicle customisation works. The reason being, you dont want people using the "wrong" ships all the time. You only want them to be used on special occasions, for smuggling runs and suchlike.
I'd like to see it that when (not if!) this is implemented, it's shipped hand in hand with a smuggler revamp that allows smuggling across space-lanes and dangerous trade routes.
With regards to the timer/counter idea - if you go over the limit, you have a 60%, or whatever, chance of an Imperial Rapid-Deployment Force, hell-bent on your destruction for smuggling stuff right under their noses.
I figure Imperial Rapid-Deployment Force would consist of;
1 Decimator (tier 4)
2 Aggressors (tier 4)
4 TIE Interceptors (tier 3)
8 TIE Fighters (tier 2)
That's 15 ships of pure space-based nightmare. The reason for the disparity between the tiers in the imp force is simple: You want it to be *challenging* but you dont want it to be "Oh shi-BOOOOOOM!" sort of thing. And let's face it - shooting TIE fighters outta the sky with 2 hits is what was in the films. It's how it should be in the game. LOTS of TIE fighters, all easy to kill.... but so many that they really hammer you. Interceptors of course being somewhat tougher but still killable - the Aggressors backing up the Decimator for some awesome firepower.
And yes, tier *4* decimator, not 5. Going up against any tier 5 ships that have multi-directional weapons is just silly, and for many people means taking 3 hits - one for the shields, one for the armour, the other to blow you up!
Oh, and Nefarious: Copy/paste this into the Core Systems forum too.

Hey... what if smugglers could slice blueprints/Deeds for crafted ships?
Lets say in the next expansion they add the Lambda, then a smuggler "aquires" a Lambda bluepring/deed from a shipwright (no more gimme ships please) and then modifies it to use a stolen Lambda cert. that Rebels can use. now you could go further with this... slicing faction armor to be "stolen" and worn by the aposing faction, so one possible way to board opposite faction dockable ships is to descise your self and sneak aboard.
I would think the Deed would need pereodic re-slicing to stay hidden, and of course the Imps would be able to do the same with... (we will say a Nova, for lack of a better example)
I would say no to starfighters though... because there dosn't seem to be a reason to be sneaking about in a TIE/ln or an X-Wing.

Spoken like a true NON SMUGGLER!
The OP asked very nicely if yuu guys and gals would play together on this thread and steer clear of the above nonsense.
