I had /dock ed with a Heavy transportafter finding it with an Unidentified Cargo (after disabling it first, of course), and I saw all the Animations for the /dock and then after docking, the message saying I have retrived [Unidentified Cargo] appeared, and to make sure I Inspected the ship again and it had no cargo left. However, I had no extra credits or a credit chip in my inventory, nor anyextra Items or anything else on my ship (which is a normal TIE Fighter, no storage containers in it). I also know that if a ship is empty it will not allow you to /dock with it.So, does anyone know where the cargo has gone and how to get it? Or was this some kind of mistake in-game?

Probably a mission ship, unless it is your mission you will not see anything.

I've never gotten anything of cargo ships i've disabled and docked with, i all ways make sure they have stuff in them first. i don't think the devs have added the loot thats meant to be on them yet.

they probably have but they are spawning for specific missions, so if you do dock and get the "loot" it doesn't mean anything unless that ship was designed to be taken down for a specific mission. There are a few ships like that, which I won't mention because it could lead to griefing.
You will not get anything from them anyway unless it was a specific target you were searching for. So all in all, pointless except for the mission taker.

Nope, it definatley wasn't a mission ship, it was just one of those ships that you see randomly hyperspacing into and out-of the space areas like the walkingNPC's on the ground, but destroyable. And I think the loot is put in for some ships, as another time a ship had "stolen art" as cargo, and that had a message saying that my ship hadn't got enough storage or something similar. But, then, maybe that was a mission ship too. So maybe its just some have actual cargo's, but some have only got names. Then again, it would be sweet if you could use something like the YT-1300 or another ship like it to take the cargo of those ships, like Player Pirates. Hmm, must geeet a pirate smiley...

Some mission targets are like this though, just random spawns in the middle of nowhere, attackable by everyone.

Just for the record, there are plenty of trasports and freighters that have "cargo", that are NOT mission ships. Most missions that spawn ships are only attackable by the mission taker and his/her group. Very few missions require you to attack, much less dock with, ships that are a static spawn. Those of us that have tried this for any length of time know that these are not mission ships we are inspecting and attempting to loot. It is simply a broken ability right now until the devs address it.

Some freighters definately carry cargo. However, you can not retrieve the cargo by any means i.e docking or blowing it up.
I've tried this in beta and in live. You will get a message saying the cargo was transfered but it would not show up in your inventory. Ever.
Maybe we can push this as part of the loot revamp. Allow us to obtain loot by docking with ships.
Warning:
If the freighter is destroyed during docking process, your ship will get stuck in space. Only the ship that you're piloting, your other ship will work fine. Happened to me once. Very annoying.

Well, lets hope that this is just a broken command for now, it would be good to find actual cargo from these ships. Well, I hope so. It would help for if you found something like some top-quality metals and materials or some hyper rare ship parts in some ships. Then you would probably get loads of privateers going round in their YT-1300's robbing ships trying to be pirates. Then again, that dosen't seem to be much of a bad thing, bringing some good materials ot galaxies which are a bit low on the good stuffs. Maybe even some "Retirement-class" ship parts (well, I call them that beacuse selling just 1 of these parts could give you enough credits to retire completely) that would be hyper-rare and really good, like a level 2 Capacitor with 20000 energy and 300 recharge rate or something that ridiculos. Basicly parts that are so rare they never actually used. Hmm, time to look up the Loot revamp...

you saying about high level loot did the add the legendary and exceptional loot into space like it is on the ground or did they not bother adding a system like that?

It might depend on the cargo that the ship is carrying. A friend docked with and looted a freighter yesterday that was carrying inert gas and ended up with 1k of it.

I was saying they might put a system in like that, but it looks like some loots work. Weird.
