Thread: Putting the Star Wars into JTL

This is a list of suggestions I think would help immensely to adding the star wars feel of a galactic conflictinto jtl.

1. Ships, not plantary based npcs.Landing on star destroyers and capital ships and getting your missions there. For privateers, there should be an assortment of hidden asteroids, and various bases to dock at.

2.Briefing room; Rather than seeking out some random npc who isstanding aloneon some planet somewhere... you actually enter a planning room, where you see other pilots, the commanders and their staff all gathered around their monitors and planning boards; the game has many pieces of furniture which resemble these; make aBRIEFING ROOMwhen we go to get and recieve our missions. It should LOOK like an ongoingmilitary operation.

3. Give an ACTUAL Mission Briefing; When you actually get the mission, there is a cutscene which on a diagram which shows EVERY step of the mission, on displays like they had in the old LucasArts Tie Fighter game. Currently we justget a set of obscure orders, and have no idea of the length of time, or how many steps will be involved.

A. Any mission step that is completed, should count toward ultimate mission success. I dont want to have to repeat a 2 hour mission just because the last step is impossible to finish alone.

B. PRIMARY OBJECTIVES should reward us with mission success; SECONDARY objectives should give us further rewards but should not bar the pilotfrom ADVANCEMENT.

4. MAKE READABLE SPACE NAV MAPS! Shoot the idiot who made the space nav maps, turn it into a readable 2 dimensional map which every other SANE flight computer game uses.

5. LAUNCH AND LANDING SEQUENCE; Launch and landing sequences, I want to see my ship going into the landing bay, and I want to see my launch sequence fromtheStar Destroyerif I am being launched out.

6. PvP IT DOENST EXIST BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER MADE TO EXIST- as has been said elsewhere PvP should be challenging, yet fun. Currently from what Ive seen, the fight is literally over in one volley- like shields and armor dont even exist. When its easier to wtfblast another player... than it is to wtfblast an npc, then obviously the game was never intended or balanced for pvp conflict. Many probably feel this is kind of a rip off, since one of the selling points of JTL was being able to extend the GCW beyond the ground; against other players.

Ive found that flying one of the bigger ships, you have to be able to outrun your enemy or you will always die since they can out turn you... and out run you if you go to escape. The only answer in these cases is hyperdrive, well, you better hope they dont land the magic volley on you.

Therefore it is my personal belief that the big guys either need some massive shield regen multiplier, or they need to have a vastly higher top speed so they can escape.... and hit and run. The slower but more manueverable fighter would be able to get away because it can turn faster; thus it would still be viable as long is it didnt try to head-on a heavy fighter... and the heavy fighter would no longer be easy meat for the light fighter.... since it would be able to get the hell outta dodge.

7. Voice; when an npchas some smack to talk, it would be nice to hear it. Maybe the murmuring is also good since it would get old hearing the same thing over and over.... But think back to Privateer, when getting smacktalked you actually hear what they say, and hear their screams when they blow up.

8. Seriously think about features seen in the morepopular single player games; i feel like if you can have more fun playing one of those games, and have less headaches, and not have the extra burden of needing a group; then it may be more fun.

Instead of offering us a new item or the accumulation of more ship slots; how about actually making it so the game has playable content, and does so in a manner whichfeels like a star wars space based game. When I think of the fact that I could buy a good single player game for 30-50 bucks, which I usually pay for a yearly expansion... on top of the fact I am also paying 30 bucks a month since I usually keep two accounts, and the quality of the actual gameplay experienceis LESS than I could find playing the single player, I realize we are kinda getting ripped off.

When it is more fun to play a single player game like my ANCIENT Privateer dos based game, then the MMORPG has failed to serve its purpose.

#3; never write a post more than 3 paragraphs- unless it a guide
#4; never say "sticky this," others will if its worth a sticky.
#5; in the heading never say "devs please read."
#6; never ask for a rollback, just wont happen.
#7; Never use too many colors.
#8; Avoid quoting quotes of quotations, he said she said who said??

1. Check the fanfest movie about capital ships. This is coming

2. Some Tier trainers are in such a room.

3. Would be nice.

A. I like the current system, all or nothing. But staged would be beneficial to a lot of players. Might also make help easier to get if another pilot only needs to help out on the last stage.

B. I'm fine with that, primary lets you advance. Secondary gives you the current reward component.

4. I never use the map, don't see why you would need a map with the waypoint/POI system.

5. Very fun for the firstweek, then you get annoyed by the extra time it takes to launch into space. Any game where I could turn those sequences of, I have turned them of. If they get implemented I would like to see an option to turn them off.

6. PvP is challenging and fun for me. The current system takes real skill and fights can be over fast. Sadly, this only seems appealing to a small group of players.

7. Nothing has speech in SWG, don't expect it to come in the taunts.

8. Some features of single player games can only be done in single player games. Other features are incompatible with the current JTL setup. E.g. Energy management, that will only work when you work with a basic set of components. In JTL you could put in a heavy reactor and run everything at 150%.

Who's forcing you to maintain 2 accounts or buy the expansions? If you feel ripped off, cancel one account or both. I would like a 2nd toon for certain purposes but I refuse to put myself through the village grind and I don't think the 2nd toon is worth another $15,- a month. You had a decent post going 'till you started about the fees.

Good ideas, and stuff a lot of us want to see.

Some of them might take some work, but the mumuring, come on, how hard is it to have some random person record the line of text that it shows....

Capital Ships and PvP are probably the centre of JTL expansion.

If they can put a great incentive into Space PvP (GCW-wise), combined with Capital Ships, it would be a great combination.

Think about it, SDs, Mon Cal Cruisers, and waves of Interceptors and A-Wings having a massive dogfight in DS.

These are all great ideas. Very similar to the way X-Wing Alliance and the other TIE Fighter games were structured. I would like to see many of these suggestions implimented in game. Another important point is these are all combat related. Space in star wars isn't just for combat. In fact, its main appeal is for commerce. Adding this element will make combat in space that much more appealing. There is a great thread around here on player contracts and improving commerce, I'll see if I can find it.
