Thread: Powering down your engine

Wouldn't it be cool if we could actually come in close to an asteroid, and "cling" to it like Obi, and shut our engines off, effectively dissapearing from the radar.

Then we could lie in wait and power up ambushing other players. Oh yes, this would involve other players actually being in space.......

Just mine his ship too, it's got metals and stuff that crafters need in it, right?

Yeah, that would be cool. Did you guys ever play the Mechwarrior games? You could shut down your mech to hide from enemies, would be a cool stategy.

VC idea. Yeah imagine in a small a-wing or JSF, hiding out for big old nasty lol. Maybe even get away with it for the bigger ships on larger asteroids or space stations!

The idea of remaining hidden from other players is appealing.

This asteroid holds plent of interest for me. I don't need sensors to know your ship is there.. I'm LOOKING at it. Besides, you just responded to my comm

Im a huge battletech fan. my favorite tactic for mw4 mercs was to hide behinda building, shut down my mech and let them pass by. then i'd restart and and shove my lbx-20 down their thoat.

Er if you let their mech walk by you...turning them around and shoving your lbx down their throat just takes to much time.

this also brings up another issue: do you think starships should generate heat? i mean they are rapidly firing lasers for an endless amount of time. wouldnt so much heat melt and decay the spaceframe? in the battletech world your mech would shut down if not explode.

In response to that ^^^^^^^^ post...

That is what the heat sinks are for. THe S-foils on the ETA fighters, Jedi Starfighter open up to allow for the heat to the bled offmoreeasily. BTW, the S-foils are the two little wings that open up on the edge of the wings. When the pilot of the ARC-170 in RotS says "Lock S-foils in attack possition." He is opening up the foils so heat is bled off faster which makes his QRC run faster and just do better in general.

There are heat sinks on every ship, but sometimes they look like something else.

It's true, most of the fighters do have heat sinks...and space is pretty cold so they work pretty well
