Okay, I mine way too slow. Anyone have any methods that you use to mine fast?

Thanks to all who reply!

Easiest way for a solo miner is the following:

First and foremost, grab a ship that has 2 forward-firing, pilot controlled guns. 2 is the minimum.
In one slot, stick a Mk.III Mining Laser
In the other, stick a Tractor Beam
If you have extra slots, stick in another mining laser or a gun to fend off the Asteroid Bandits

And make sure you have a 1550 Cargo Hold, it will save on trips to the ground to offload.

Now, easiest way to mine is in a ship that is really maneuverable, but not too quick. I typically keep my speed around 600, but making sure I have a high PYR engine in there for snaping around to the different asteroid chunks.

Then, just toggle on your tractor beam and forget about it. Check the Keymap for what key is bound to it.

When starting out, just break off one big chunk, target it and /follow. That will get you in right behind it at a good range. Fire a couple shots with your mining laser and watch your tractor beam suck up almost every chunk immediately. You can choose to chase down the extra chunks that got away or head back to the big asteroid and start again. Sometimes, especially when learning, chasing those asteroid chunks will take a while. Though, once you get the hang of it, you can actually speed up mining by going after them, unless they get too far away.

There are also a couple macro's people run, though I don't remember exactly what they are or where they are posted. Mainly, it's just stuff like

/target asteroid;
/pause 0.5;
/follow;

That will always keep an asteroid targetted, though I'd still recommend manually to get the hang of it. I've been mining since RoTW came out and I still do all my targetting the manual way. It lets me pick and choose what chunks are worth chasing and which I can just let go.

Hope that helps some.

Recently I purchased a Nova courrier and I equipped it with a Mk.III Mining Laser. I went to an asteriod and got into the turret and started blasting away. About 10 minutes later - NOTHING. No Chunks, rocks, or even pebbles. Am I doing something wrong, or is space mining bugged?

Thanks, in advance, for any help on this...

When mining in any POB ship (YT-1300, Nova, Decimator, Y-8) you must have some one sitting in the pilot's seat you can't mine solo with a POB. If you did have someone in the seat then you might try anding and removing the equipment then trying it again or just keep blasting untill the asteroid dies.

BTW the search function is you friend as are the stickies on top.
