All I want to know is how to get started mining.

A good way of learning how to mine asteroids is to do the quests for the Y-8 mining vessel on Kashyyyk. You can start those in the cantina in Kachirho if Im correct.

Great post on this in the Pilot forum recently. Subject was "Space Mining" made easy or something like that. Great tips.
