OK my first idea is just a fluff thing really, but I think it would be pretty neat. Remember in Episode 4, when Vader hits R2D2 in the back of Luke's X-wing, and he makes that "Oh crap I'm overloading I'm toast!!!" screech? I think it would be cool if you were in a ship that had an astromech installed, if during combat the droid interface gets disabled, then you would hear that same screech.
My second idea is more of a complaint, really. As a Rebel pilot, I feel kind of cheated in my selection of droid commands. Yeah, they can be useful, and there are certain situations and emergencies where they can save your bacon, but I really don't feel that they are anywhere near as useful as the commands that Imperials and Freelancers get. I know that I can just get chips burned anyway so its no big deal - and I have done so - but while there seems to be a good market for these other commands, I have trouble GIVING mine away! One command I think should be added, that would fit with the Rebel theme of staying alive through shield management, while being generally useful and desired like other commands, would be a shield overload program. It would work just like all of the other overload programs in existence right now, where damage is done to the shield component, and maybe boost the reactor load, but in return shield strength and regeneration is increased. I think that's something that would be sought after and used often by all factions, just like engine overload and capacitor overload.
My third idea also involves command chips. Make there be space loot that drops droid command chips that have special commands, that no pilot profession can do already. I honestly can't think of any specific ideas as to what kind of commands they would be, but I'm sure you all can come up with some good ones.

Well on your first issue, when my ships shields go down and i recieve hits my droids screeches. I dont know if it is just me or my ship but my droid cries realllly loud when we get hit with no shields.

Really? I didn't realize that. I didn't actually start using astromechs or FC's until I was Tier 4 and using my A-wing, so I guess I never noticed. I just assumed that the dev's wouldn't be that cool, hehe.

keep in mind that just because a droid command isnt on your skill tree doesnt mean you cant use it, just ask an imp or privateer to burn you a command you want

I could honestly be wrong, it has been a while since my shields have been downed. So i could just be remembering the normal squeaks of the droid.

I do know this. I said so in my original post.

I agree with you about Rebel commands. I think simple shield adjustments should be standard commands on ALL ships, like it was in the old X-Wing and Tie Fighter games. Why does one need to be a Rebel to adjust shield output to front or rear? Is it because Rebels were the only ones they show doing it in the movies? That shouldn't mean no other pilots or ships are capable of it. So yes, I think its a complete waste that all of our droid commands are simply about adjusting shields.
Speaking of droid chips, I can't seem to find any neutral pilots who will program chips for me. Does anyone know of any vendors on Bloodfin selling programmed command modules? I can shout in Coronet for neutral pilots for 30 minutes and get no response.

I took me a while to find a freelance pilot to burn chips for me, too. I have noticed recently though that they are showing up on bazaars in greater quantities. Just check "entire galaxy" and its in the Misc category. I saw a bunch of chips on there just yesterday.
