Thread: Does the AI get better?

Hi!

I've come to JTL from the X-Wing series, and was just wondering if the AI in JTL gets any better at higher levels. In the X-Wing series, enemies would roll and jink all over the place to avoid your fire. Here, they just seem to keep flying in a circle, and the whole thing comes down to an excercise in making the two green dots match up.

Is there any hope for a little character in the enemies?

I agree enemys are all the same needs to vary and have charectoristics it would make the game much funner also if the ships got harder as you got better that would be more fun (funner is not a word)

This is the very FIRST thing that needs to be worked on...

So...I go out and start doing the destroy mission things in tier two right....I get into my Tie/in Fighter and launch into space to fight (after like an hour or so of grinding the missions) taking 3+tier 3 ships or 6+ tier 2 ships. It's plain stupid...and its getting really anoying when all you can do is fly around in a circle and just make yourself dizzy. It gets boring doing this then just by luck...they Nym's nice ships decide to go bezerk and fire three missles in a row on you...killing you instantly, no room for escape.

I say they make the AI a ton better....Hell, you don't even need AI, just give em some randomness like spinning (barrel roll I mean) and mayb random jerkey movements and cut down on the damn zerg. I don't wana face 10 ships at the same time and just flip around like crazy every time i get shot....I want just a few ships that give me a challenge (and more XP)

Just my two cents...

While I agree the AI is pretty simple, the higher tier ships move faster and are more manueverable so they are harder to beat. Even though the strategy is the same, they find there way on your tail much easier, so you need to be a good pilot to take them on. Now, I two would like to see some tactics, but that is what Deep Space and PvP is for.

Meh....true i guess...but with the teir three ships i fight seem too wave back and forth so its hard to shoot em. So what I do is boost right onto there arse and waste em like that...but thats still the same thing *circle* *circle* *cirlce* /falloutofseat

it definately gets harder as you progress, once u have tier1 u start to notice a difference, tier 2, more, when u get to tier 3+4, then ur gonna begin to break a sweat trying to dogfight and kill targets... yes it does get harder and the ships move a lot faster

yea i think the AI could be improved, but like the one guy above said about higher tiers being harder is true, but still about every time the AI will just do the same thing going in circles and yea its just a line up the green target game from there

It's annoying, you know?

I would love to appreciate these great graphics, and ooh and ahh about how great the ships look, but I can't look at them - 'cause if I want to actually play the game, then I must concentrate all my attention on two little green dots!

the AI gets really hard as you hit the teir 4-5 range. the tactics may be the same, but they sure can swamp you in a hurry. remember that this is AI, if you want a decent fight, you will have to pvp.

I am fighting as hard as I can to get through my tir 3 lvl 3 mission but it seems there is almost no way to do it with out a group of 3 ships or higher. I am very angree about the fact the AI has ESP or just programed to follow your flight path exactly in space. It seems as many fancy manuvers I pull off or for nothing. The only way to stop being hit is being behind your target. I have played all the Xwing/TIE fighter games and you could use a manuver and get out of harms ways for a few seconds put in jtls it seem you have to have big groups to get the npc off your back before they kill you. I think the biggest problem with the npcs following your flight path is when they get in formation and have 4 to 5 ships do one pass on you and take out your shields and armor and with no way the YOU(not people saving your life) evade them.

It seems PvE is going to be harder then PvP in jtls with the super auto follow command the AI has.

This is my only problem with jtls just plz take the auto follow off the npcs and allow for manuvers to make a difference in PvE.

-------------------------

I posted that in another post.

It seems the programing for the npcs is the same as the follow comand the player can use? YOU CAN'T SHACK THEM....Try it. and if you watch people try you will notice that the only real way you have evaded them is that they flew by you.

I know you need to have groups .....but we do......It is just crazy hard with as few people in jtls as there could be. Only 4 people out of are 40 active member guild have jtls.

Has anyone played the Xwing/Tie fighter games? Cuz that is the type of AI we need.

BTW are the(NPC) imps out of money cuz I see very little imp forces on the ground or in space. I know the imp power lies in there StarDestoryers fleets and the imp navy but I have yet to see a capital ship

It's just like the ground game in that large spawns, very high damage attacks, and capabilities far above that of the players substitute for any kind of real AI system. I'm at 3332 now, soloed my way there. The AI hasn't gotten any better, and the missions are, well, boring and a necessary evil to get to the point where you can get the ship and gear you want and then just do what you want.
