Thread: Is this add on a licence for SOE to print money
So I renew one of my accounts, spends almost 3 hours twiddling my thumbs while the loader does its thig and downloads the mother of all patches/updates. ( i have a 2 meg connection)
Then having paid me 14.99 $ US or its equiveleant in sterling I log on only to find I have to BUY the add on retail.
In my local stores it varies for £19.99 to a whopping £29.99 for an add on to an online game that I beta tested from beta 2 on AHAZI
That's way b4 it came out retail in the States and far far longer than b4 it came out in europe.
This post is not meant to induce flames, its really a plea to all u existing players to tell me if the JTLS is really worth spending what will be about £40.00 in total for what will possibly be only a few days play. If the SWG has not improved its basic game play from what it was back atr easter. I don't think the outlay is justifiable.
In this modern age, is it simply "impossible " for SOE to have the files available for download, and charge a few bucks for an activation code ?
Considering the amount of real world time and effort the beta testers put in, having to pay for each add-on is beginning to sound vaguely "everquesty" familiar.
For the moment I am one not very impressed customer.
CAn some kind DEV or "official" from SOE, shed light on what the heck is happening.
(whilst i was typing this, I have spoken to a few local stores on the phone. SWG is so popular in the South of England that its order only in GAME one of the UK's largest retail chain. )
May the force be with us

Keep in mind, JTL is really just a quest when you think about it. So far, if you master a pilot profession, or complete the JTL quest, there's really nothing to do except help others. Coming next week will be new missions that masters and newbies alike can take on to continue the JTL experience, either for content, quest rewards, or just duty missions for cash.
It can be quite expensive buying new chassies however. True, you never lose your chassie or EQ in it, but each time you repair an item, it decays1point for every 10points you repair.... meaning eventually you're going to be buying new chassies when they get down to barely nothing... basically, if you blow up a bunch of times, you'll soon be a one-shot kill the second your shields and armor go down.
EQ is never a problem though. Though shipwright's components seem to be a bit higher quality (ie less mass, and higher stats), you definately get PLENTY of loot while up there: enough to cycle your ship with constantly to keep it in top-condition.
Bottom line: JTL is a great side-game if you're beyond sick of the ground game, but don't expect a HUGE batch of fresh content here... Pilot professions may not require skill points, but it's quest-based, meaning you have to advance in the quest to advance in skill. I'd get it if I were you, butif you're expecting a big change to SWG, wait for the combat upgrade and GCW revamp coming next year.

Since we got shafted in the UK, I got a mate to buy me the game in france and then I downloaded it.
Oh and it took me 40 mins on a 2 meg connection to download the whole thing (while I was playing the ground game), I'd have a word with your ISP if I where you. cause you an't getting 2 meg.
Oh and it is worth it
I have bitten the bullet and biught the thing retail.
I still intened to play just now and again, but having had a few hours in space, I must admit it does give the game another "angle"
Things have changed a fair bit on th ground side game as well, so maybe SOE has won bak a customer.
