Thread: How about hangar instances?

For those of us who want to see and walk around our ships, how about something like this:
Make the starship terminal like a hangar directory. When you open it up you can see what ships you have and their hangar location, or allow you to search the directory for a friend or ship name to see what hangaryour friend's ship islocated in. Once you have the hangar number, you punch it in and are "loaded" into an instance ofthat hangar.
You can meet up with friends in the hangar before boarding your MP ship,walk around your ship andinspect damage, etc. You might also have some standard NPCs like a starport administrator who collects landing fees, a binary load lifter droid that you use to swap components in and out,or maybe a storm trooper squad that's come to "arrest you" for treason against the empire and impound your ship... 
I'm not a programmer, but it doesn't sound overly difficult, and would add a lot to that Star Warsy experience.

No, you're not a programmer. You'd have to create an entirely new architecture to support it, then excise the current starport stuff from the existing code and drop in this big behemoth thing of instancing. Not to mention the additional physical resources (servers, bandwidth, etc).
Not saying it's a bad idea. Just saying that this wouldn't be the kind of thing they could whip out in a few hours or even days.
And with all the other problems in the game right now, I don't think they should be concentrating on unnessesary things like this. Once all the bugs are fixed and the combat revamp is in and all the professions are balanced and the GCW is revamped, THEN they could look at instanced starports.
