Thread: Content Suggestion: Infrequent Space Events

People have said there is little to no content after making Master Pilot, and so Ive been thinking of ways to add some "spice" to space.

My idea is this: Once every two months, two members of the Events team log in to a server, and proceed to spawn a Star Destroyer and either multiple Rebel Gunboats, or a Nebulon-B Frigate, as well as a moderate amount of NPC starfighters for both sides. This can be done in whichever "system" is bearing the least server load at the time to reduce the impact such a large spawn and the subsequent battle would have on server performance.

The two Events staff then spawn themselves ingame, one on each side, with a tricked-out starfighter.

A system message is then sent out to about 5-10 members of each faction involved, something along the lines of "ISD Gauntlet is under assault by a large Rebel fleet, proceed to XXX system to assist in its defense!" should do fine. That gives a reasonable starting number of pilots, and from there word can spread.

Pilots should have to be Overt to participate, although this may be impractical, Im not sure if its possible to tag any spawned ships as only attackable by Overts, its something to look into anyway.

In addition to the extra content such an event would provide, the Events staff involved would be Overt, and whichever pilot shoots them down would recieve a badge, something like: "....has killed the renowned Rebel Ace Blahbla Blah." I just like the idea of having a unique killmark in player's bios to show they have some serious skills(beating an Events team member will be something special, especially considering they can spawn a ship with, essentially, any stats or equipment they choose ).

Now then, how often would these events occur? After all, I did say "Infrequent" in the title. Well, seeing as we cant really demand the events staff do this every week, I propose that it should be done on a rotating cycle over two/three-month periods, with each individual server getting one event per-cycle. You could randomise the order in which each server gets their event each cycle if you're worried about server stress. That way, the Events team are not spending their entire lives doing this, but the events are still frequent enough to keep everyone happy. It also makes the badges gained from killing "Event Aces" even more special and coveted.
