Thread: FreeLancer (the game) and JTL

As a very big fan of FreeLancer I was very excited to be playing JTL. For the most part I am very happy with JTL. I think that they have done a pretty good job. I like how they implemented the mouse support and after some tweaking is very nice. Being a veteran of FreeLancer I got very used to usng the mouse. However there are a few things that I wish that they could use that FreeLancer had.


1. Scale in space. They really need to get rid of the scale system that they are using currently. This system works fine on the ground but in space they should not be using meters. They should convert this to Km. It would make things actually seem bigger. Also with this ucrrent scale if I am flying my A-Wing with the 92.2 engine it would translate to something like 90 mph with boosters. Ummm. My car goes faster than this. Just be simply making it km and not m it would then give the thought of going much faster.


2. I am not really really sure if the actual volumes of space sectors are larger in FreeLancer but you could fly around planets and it felt a lot more dynamic. Again just by making the scale to km from m you would adjust the the apearance of volume by 1000. You could make images samller by the same factor. Keep the actual speed as it is and volume as it is.


3. Turret view. Since FreeLancer has freighters as a pilotable ship it had turrets as a seperate class from guns. Some ships had 6 turrets. When in the cockpit view only the turrets that faced forward could be fired. However you had the ability to go to turret view. In turret view the camera would shift around the ship. However in the view you could not pilot the ship only adjust the speed. It was a very nice feature. You set the auto pilot or point the ship where you want to go and then change to turret view. Now remember this is only useful for defence since you cannot steer the ship and can only shoott down the bad guys that come into range.


Beleive it or not but these are really only the things that I would like to see changed. Well maybe one other thing. For instance if I have a z95. I mount one gun but when I fire I see two bolt and actually see two guns. This should be listed as two seperat guns. That way I could choose the two different guns. Maybe make all of the hard point seperate and allow more guns. This would allow for much greater customizations.

Good points, even though I didn't like Freelancer.


Haegemonia: Legions of Ironwas awesome, though!





Now, if they could use some of that engine, it'd be just awesome. The movement was sooooo smooth.
