Thread: Idea for a JTLS publish.

Have to say guys you have done great jobwith jump to light speed and regained a subscriber you have realy helped bring a portion of the game truley into the Star Wars setting, very well done.


I was thinking last night how you can improve on a already excellent expansion (minus some bugs), many people here have played the xwing flight sim games and would have already taken parts in Tours Of Duty (TOD's). This is how you could bring TOD's into SWG JTLS, once a player hits Ace in there chosen piloting skill set allow them to chose a TOD in a certain sector. A TOD would basicly mean the Player is assigned to a Navy Vessel of there alligment, the vessel itself could be a instanced area with a maxium number of players allowed on board at a certain time (think the corvetter but a larger number).


This would mean creating a replica of the interior 's of the Military vessels seen in the movies, everything a player needs could be on this ship, medical room,RnR rooms, simulater rooms,briefing rooms etc. None alligned players can alos trasnfer to these ships to prodie the services needed and would also receive a wage from the vessels CO. A wage would also be received for the player taking part in the TOD, make a payment spred over the missions or a final lump sum.


The player is assigned to this vessel for a duration but may seek Leave from the vessel to the planet below form the Captain, during the players stay on the vessel a set series of pre createdmissions with a story line for each sector (say 30 mission per sector). These missions themselves would be instanced zones, this would allow for a greater number of vessels and objects. A player may recruit others from his vessel to help him and group up for certain missions.


The missions themselves would consist of a story line for each sector, for exmaple Naboothe Imperials must locate a joint opertaions base for rebels and pirates operating in the sector, over the course of the TOD the player would be given missions ranging from patrols all the way to heated starfigther battles. Templates for mission could easily be taken from the old xwing/Tie games and implemented into the new story (i.e destory supply containers in a mined area).


Over the course of the TOD the player can earn medals by meeting set levels of expertise, I belive this could increase the length of time people playJTLS and make it even more fun.


Some people will say that players don't want to sign up to TOD and have there movements restricted my reply to that would be where paying to live in the Star Wars galaxy i want to sign up to Empire and i want to serve it and i'm sure there are others who have signed up todo the same. If people want to join the Navy they would do it knowing they have spend some times completing missions, this would be a easy way to give the JTLS a better feeling of real comflict.

I think this is a great idea, i would love to do missions like that cause when your ace you dont have many options left except making new char and doing another factio like reel or privateer.

The captial ship itself would'nt exist in the normal zones it would be represented by a static graphics in the distance in the sector, when you leave the vessel you would see a small cut scene of you craft leaving the hanger, you would then appear in the TOD the instanced mission zone.


The Captial ship must be like a repilca both in size and look, for exmpale let pilots of certain rank have access to the brige so we can look out into space (have tie fighters fly past the windows etc.


Have stormtroopers walked the corridors witht he ickle mouse bot darting around infront of them, one thing i would love to do is actaully walk into the large hanger of a Star destroyer and see just how big it is, we know that a replica of a ships interiorcan be made ala the Corvette mission. The player would also be giving his own perosnal room in which he can leave items.


A great idea for collecters is to have mission rewards ala X-wing allaince like bits of fighter you've blown up or a reward from a certain Heavy breathing dark lord of the sith hanging on your wall. Also please please look at the Xwing games for more vessels to add to the game, there are hundreds of different designs around ofr star wars craft in the EU comics and books, implement them


ON a GCW TOD the player would be taken to a Hot war zone TOD, this would lead the player into instance missions agaisnt real players, yes this is harder to implemnet but it would help the pvp side of things.


The simulator onboard the ship would allow players to fly old mission with harder foes and maybe even design there own mission which they can pass on to devs and a special few could be put together to form a player made TOD.

I do agree with this idea.
This would be a great way to move from being technically militia pilots up into being part of the fleet full time.
