I realize people's ambitions about having JTL affect planetary control and there have been some elaborate ones. I also have had dreams of eloborate space battles affecting the GCW. But that aside, there is already a way to affect the ground game. People are amazed at how much faction I bring in from space. I can get 7k faction an hour in space. 3 hours is enough to get the most expensive detatchment headquarters in the game. I am leader of a guild that does nothing except focus on the GCW. I have mastered the rebel, imp, and freelance trees (and almost imp again on another server 4434). I have to say that whether you do it in deep space or you do tier4 duty missions after master... both with imperial and rebel ace I can get tons of faction in space. I got a whole set of ST armor, in just half a day and I got a rebel SF Detatchment Headquarters in about 3 hours. I can get enough turrets to fill up a 5 turret base in a hour or 2.
Not to mention the fact that this is much more fun than getting faction on the ground in most cases and I get cash, loot and the occasional uber part to go along with it.
As someone focused on the GCW on the ground, it seems I can pull in allot more faction points in space. I am really enjoying this and it is amazing how many people are paying millions for turrets and bases when you could just go kill opposing faction ships in space while having fun for a few hours, while sitll making plenty of cash on duties and loot on the side.
I think perhaps one reason people dont seem to talk about this as much is because the ground PVPers and GCW focused people are generally a different breed than the space sim finatics.

How exactly do you get faction points in space? I've been taking out ties for months and not a single point.

Yeah, space is a massive harvesting ground for faction points if you know how/where to do it.
All opposing faction ships deal anywhere from 3 to whopping 100s of faction points as long as you have declared yourself overt in space at your faction space stations. Doing so however, enables other players also declared overt of the opposing faction to attack you, but since no-one ever does that in space, it's a relatively safe way to grind faction points.

Why I love my Bwing - all I kill are gunboats and decimators

I asa Crimson Pheonix master pilot, I take tier 4 duty missions that say "Let me at those Imperial Patrols". I have a massivly tricked out xwing and can kill tier 4's in about 3 seconds. I get about 35 faction per kill on a tier 4 and with the duty missions they just come non stop. You also get loot.
The amount of faction you get is bases on the level of ship you are killing. Gunboats pay over 100 faction, tier 5's can pay up to 60 faction points. Aslo if you bring a wingmate and you both help kill the same target, you BOTH get full faction points for the kill. So if you and a guildie are working on getting bases or turrets you can help each other on tier4 duty missions and together could potetially rack up 14k faction an hour or more.
You must be declard to get faction points and you can be attacked by other players, but I find that to make it just that much more exciting.
Deep space is the best place to farm that I have found for imperials, but tier 4 duty missions are also very good for imps. Rebels do not do so well in deep space due to the fact that their best fighter X-Wing only has 100k mass and the only fighter class ships that spawn there generally come in group of 20 and swarm you. That mean you have to be able to handle a big swarm of tier5's or you have to take out gunboats and decimators as a rebel. That is not a good choice.
But as an Imperial in deep space, it is easy to find small clusters of bwing, xwings, etc where you can dogfight 2-3 at a time. The opressor has much more mass so you can carry the big shiels, and the big guns and it is more manuverable than the xwing. Just watch the missiles on those Tier5 bwings

i will have to get my bwing out again and try to take out some gunboats again. I had a really hard time killing imperial gunboats, but the rebel gunboats are cake, just them from below, take out engines and they are sitting ducks. I heard the trick with killing the imp ones is to get a b-wing, target gun #2, then ake out the engine. Then get behind it and finish it off. I will try this and see if I can figure it out.

I was saying deep space had strategic value the day after the massive faction patch was released. I dont think many paid attention to me, or people were intentianlly not responding to the thread so it would die and not get the word out.
So ya, JTL does effect the ground in a big way, assuming the people farming in space are using those points to purchase bases.
edit:
>>Seriously if you get PVP fixed
How? Honestly, the only thing wrong with PvP, is uniformed pilots who do not know what they are doing. You get two pilots against each other who have a clue and know what their doing, a fight can acutually take a fair amount of time.

True its the fastest way to gain faction next to farming enemy forward outposts. What really makes it work is that yeah the hardcore ground PvP nuts only bought JTLS for quick travel. Most of the ones I know have not even started on thier Pilot profession at all.
