i know these havent featured heavily in the sw galaxy , but it is mentioned in esb when han sticks the falcon to the a**&s the imp sd avenger , is there a way cloaking devices could be implemented? ( hit a function key so it acts llike mask scent but in your ship) how would you use one ( say you jus wanna get thru an opposin fact area of space to complete a miss without any aggro , or you are a smuggler an they have fixed it so you can smuggle at last ,lol) , or get one , craftable , loot drop ?, what size ship could have one?( medium fighter upwards?) would it act the same as mask scent or camo , breakable by certain actions , npcs etc? lots to chew over here I think , i dunno , aint seen it on here yet , jus thought it would be interestin to see what your thoughts were??? an for the record bfore I get flamed , its not my opinion we should have these , jus that I think it is an interestin topic to bring up ,

I dont think it would work becaues if you remember the line from esb, they mention that the falcon is to small of a ship to have a cloaking device.

nice idea though

Well as far as cloaking devices go in Star Wars Universe is that as the line goes in ESB "no ship that small has a cloaking device" The Admiral Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn revists this technology in the form of a transport that was able to cloak fighters within its cargo bays but only so far as to obscure them from scanners before the cargo bays were opened, and the fighter fly out and be seen. Its also visted upon in the Tie-Fighter collector's series release of the game. Here it is installed on a corellian corvette but severe problems when the cloak is activated and the ship goes to hyperspace, resulting in an accident. A third occurence is in the Rebel Assault 2 game for the PS1 where an entire docking complex is cloaked.

The biggest reason that cloaking devices aren't heavily used in SW is that the power consumption and resulting electronic field generated by the device is impractical as sensors would detect the Electromagnetic field well before the ship could be "seen" if it didn't have it.

As for whats in SWG the IFF scramble for rebels or privateers works just fine in allowing you to escape unscathed from an encounter. Of course you can fool your opponents once shame on them, fool them twice shame on you.

the most used cloaking device in star wars is used to stop scannings from scanning something without letting the scanners know there being blocked. a 100% true cloak in star wars has never been able to do with a fighter so its really only for big stuff. but if cloaking did exsist, it would only be for imperials, becuause they were the only ones with the technolgy of cloaking tell MUCH later in star wars timeline. though timeline doesn't matter much in swg. just look at the amount of jedi.

The only fighter-sized cloaking device implemented was that of the TIE Phantom, which doesn't come into development for quite some time...However, sensor-masking would be reasonable...

Actually, Maul's ship in Episode 1 was fitted with a cloaking device.

Well we Reb.'s do, its called IFF scramble, and it works great on npc's. I use it when ever I get in trouble, and it gives me time to get away.
