I realize sub-orbital flying is not going to happen anytime soon in SWG. How about this:
An individual can purchase, with faction points, a temporary landing zone (tlz) . This landing zone thingy (yes thingy is a technical term) comes with1 remote control thingy.
Individuals can placetlz anywhereon a planet. It will have only one use andexpire within24 hours if not used. Then the individuals with the remote control can get into their multi-passenger ship with a bunch of their pals andjump into orbit. Theythen hyperspace intothe system with the planet that contains the tlz. When they hyperspace in they will be given a waypoint whichhas a communications becon. When theyget to that becon they will be asked if they want to landat the temporary landing zone.
On the planet the graphics already available for a shuttle landing (event perk) could be used at the temporary landing zone. The people on the ship would warp in and they could go about their business either role playing or taking out a base. Once that is complete they will be allowed to regroup at the landing zone and take off. The landing zone will no longer be available after that.
Some things I would add to make things interesting:
- You must hyperspace from another planet zone to the one with the landing zone so that people just don't takeoff and land in the same zone.
- When the ship hyperspaces in, it would be great if NPC ships try to block the multi-passenger ship from getting to the communications becon. This way an escort would be appropriate.
- There should be some sort of restrictions how many of these things get placed in a day.
What do we think?

Sounds neat. 
But how would the person get the "remote control"? And is this a permanent item or one that expires after use (like a PEP)?

From what he was saying I would assume, one would buy it from a faction recruiter or perhaps pilot trainer with faction points.
And it would be one time use.
