I'm 4/3/3/3 Imperial pilot. I have a Level 4 R5 astro droid, that I am certified to use. I also have a crate of unprogrammed droid command modules. The goal is to get this guy up and running in my Jedi Starfighter, but I have no clue how to add what level 1 - 3 skills I can programthese modules, into the droid.
I also have no idea how to use the droid once programmed in space.
And, does the droid have anything to do with the droid interface component?
Please help explain this to me.

Interestingly enough, that link won't answer how to fix one of the basic problems you are going to have.
Astromechs are the 'droid brain' for the Z95, both Y-Wings, X-Wing, and the JSF. Flight Computers are the 'droid brain' for all other ships (including all standard issue Imperial equipment).
Get yourself an FC of the right level, and then you can use it in your TIEs.
More information about Astromechs and Flight Computers can be found by using the Pilot FAQ which is stickied on the Pilot board.

Your post, Nesanya, as linked in your sig, says:
"All Rebel ships and the Actis Jedi Starfighter require Astromechs...."
which isn't quite true. The A-Wing, B-Wing, and Nova Courier all use Flight Computers.

Yeah, thanks, I realized that the other day and haven't edited that thing. Still figure it's easier than retyping that info all the time. ![]()
Astromechs are simply droids created with a computer module of the appropriate level. If you search on the bazaar under Deeds > Droids and check all of the R variant droids, most droid makers will put the level of the flight computer in the name of the droid.
You can also hold more than one of these - I recommend keeping your old droids incase you ever want to do another squadron and need to swap the droid out.

Do the astromechs need to be created specifically for space? I have a couple old R2's from when I was a crafter. Can these be converted for space use or do I need to get new ones?
Thanks!
