Thread: Give a gunner a break!!!

Okies, I admit I suck as a pilot, I'm one of those few that enjoy being a buddies gunner more than flying my own ship.

I have a problem with this however. As a gunner, sometimes its better to add my weapons to where the main battery is shooting. Would it break the game for there to be some sort of targeting dot, carrot, ect. to show where the main guns are pointed?

Seems that Publish 12 is giving the pilot the functionality to see a grey arrow towards the gunner's target. For ships like the M22-T Krayt, it would be good if the gunner had the same functionality as well to see where the pilot is shooting. On MP ships, might be good for the gunners to be able to see each others target so they can coordinate fire when the opportunity presents itself. I also wish they went one step further and put a grey boxes around the target like they do with yellow and red boxes for mission targets.

Until something is done about this, the only thing we gunners can really do is communicate. Typing isn't an option when your going in hot, and are under heavy attack. I suggest using Team Speak, keep your hands free. Also try and get the ops officer to help coordinate attacks, theres little else for him to do accept run the droid commands.

Teamwork people! Until soe figures out a better system anyway.

Dont really see the point in this as A) only 2 ships have converging fields of fire and B) you can see the shots from the guns on those that do.

In flight sims a Fully gunned B-17 in many casses are nicknamed death stars by the fighter pilots.

depending on the version used thats5-6 gunners and here you have a radar that they dont have in those sims.

it all comes down to situational awareness.

5 * for both. i haven't tried out mp today, but maybe it does work both ways now?

i really like the idea of another set of brackets for other player targets.

this should go a little farther, and show

color 1: gunner / pilot target
color 2: group member targets
color 4: targets firing ON group members

there should also be a target enemy attacking target command that takes my current target, and selects the last person to attack it. that would be very group handy. sometimes it is very difficult to locate the guy shooting at your wingmen.

Tbh, id like to either see a slight range or power or refire bonus on the turrets of an MP ship (not necessarily the 2 turret fighters), as anly player in an ACE level ship can totally slaughter an MP ship full of a skilled crew without even breaking a sweat.

It'd be nice to see more of a reason to go up with a crew on a big ship rather then everyone in their own fighters.

I never said situational awareness isn't important, and I'm pretty familiar with B17z thanks. But seriously how can a little communication hurt?

U put 3 people on vox and it can get more confusing if they dont have very good situational awareness.

My experiance most things can be typed in game short hand as fast as said.

my gunners types "Aw 3" "2 Bw 6" I know there is a A wing on my 3 Oclock, and 2 B wings behind me.

that can be typed as fast as it can be said.

Simple solution, large mass shield generators to big to be fit on a solo fighter with enough power to compensate for the ace ships high damage guns.

Communications is the name of the game in any combat situation, where more than one person makes up the team. Regardless to how aware your gunners, or your group members are, if they can't get the information to you in a timely manner, and vice versa you're dead. For me typing will not work. I play with my three sons (in different locations) and we make a great team. We use Ventrillo for communications and it works great. We had an occasion to play without it last week, and my only comment is, we would have done better if we were all flying solo. It takes two hands to handle a ship in a fight, you need to maintain constant control over speed and attitude. I, for one, cannot type and do that effectively. When flying in either of our MPSs (turrent equiped fighters) we can be very effective as a pilot gunner team. Even when flying as a flight of fighters we are better able to coordinate our efforts. If voice comm ever becomes a part of the game I will use it, until then we will continue to use Ventrillo to enhance our fun. My 2 credits.
