I tried my first massive *or close to 14 vs 14* battle in an X-wing and I saw how badly I was mauled in it. One problem that contributed to it was I couldnt lead my targets effective enough *plus I was using mouse/keyboard instead of flight stick*.
I hear a lotta talk that people dont prefer to use the A-wing in PvP combat due to lack of mass, does anyone believe that it's size and turn radius make up for this though? I want to get involved in PvP combat hardcore but I dont know where to really start.

Being an imp, none of the ships have a lot of mass, so you need to rely on speed and agility. You have weaker sheilds and armor, but you get hit less.
It's a trade off. You gotta find what flight style you're best at, and go with that. Everyone's different.

I only used my a-wing in PVP twice and with the PVP damage as it is its easy to kill before getting killed in it, however the extra mass on my b-wing/firespray is more helpful in PVP i've found.

X wing presents a rather large target. To anyone in a tie fighter that is faster than the xwing their after, it's like candy as you can really latch on to their 6 and stay there.

Sounds like you need to find a better engine with a higher YPR. To be able to make tighter turns taht are almost compariable to an A wing, the xwing requires an engine around 70YPR or better.

Heh, ive heard the oppsite. The A wing presents a very small target. Your attackers shots have to be right on the money to score a hit, "near hits" wont do it. The mass on an A wing is really irrelevant where PvP is concerned because the damage being what it is, you'll kill in 1 to 3 shots, or be killed in 1 to 3 shots no matter what your flying. Speed and manuverablity is king.

Thanks a lot guys, I especially appreciate the comment from the Imperial pilots sense they are the ones who have to be shooting at these sort of craft and thus have the best combat experience against them.
Another quick question *Im not a newb, but there are some thing's I dont quite grasp*I talked to a friend of mine how RE'ing works and told him that it takes the best average from each compoent used. Im worried that I may have said the wrong thing to him. Does anyone know how the math for RE'ing works?

That's exactly how it works: It takes the best possible stats fromall items used in the RE and creates an end result with the most optimal values. Oh, and there's a small percentage bonus on the end values as well.

For each stat:
Best +/- X%
Take the best stat from each of the varied components, then add a percentage.
So, if you have a Tier 3 McGuffin with an ouput of 100, 200, and 300 mass, the final output would be 300 + X%. The best mass is the lowest stat, so if this were mass, 100 would be the best.

Another thing... get the overload programs. They come from the Neutral and Imperial Pilot trees and anyone can use them, all you need is someone with those programs to burn themto a chip (there are probably stores about that do sell them, I know of 2 on Kettemoor). Activate them in this order: Reactor Overload 3, Engine Overload 3, Capacitor Overload 3, Weapon Overload 3. The overload programs don't cause enough damage (>10, Overload 4 does >10) to cause decay. I typically hit orbit, activate the programs, repair the little amount of damage (36 credits). The Overload programs make a world of difference. My X-wing can easily keep up and out-turnall of the Tier 5's in Deep Space and Kessel (1038, 1365 Boosted). With Weapon Overload 3 I get 30% more damage out of my guns and with Capicitor 3 I never have to worry about the capacitor draining (note. Weapon Overload 3 is currently bugged, it's supposed to cause more drain on your capacitor but it is now actually causing less).
I can't say enough about the Overload programs, they make a world of difference...

I love my A wing for PvP.
It is fast...and in PvP its all about speed and getting the first one or two hits in.
Thanks for the overload chip info...nice to know

Five words:
Situational Awareness For The Win.
The element of surpise is HUGE in this game.

the awing is the pvp king do to it being a very small target. hitting an awing thats dogfighting you and running engine overload 3 is more luck than anything else. the xwing is a huge target on the other hand and is easily taken out. fly the awing, you will love it. equip it with an re'd 79 speed reward engine, a mkIV crafted shield, a nice lvl7 or 8 re'd gun, and use all lvl1-2 for the rest.
