OK I signed up to be a rebel pilot, and the woman gave me a checkpoint mission, check a few areas and report back. En route to the 3rd one, 3 TIE cadets appear and attack me. However, I cannot seem to do any damage to them. I blast and blast away with the default weapon, and it seems like its doing nothing. Am I just missing something entirely??? I am using the default ship they give you, as I am broke and cannot afford upgrades yet (I have just returned to game after nearly 2 years off, and I sunk all the money I had into my house, which ran out long ago so now i have no house either ).

Also, i seem to have trouble using auto-pilot, it engages and then immediately disengages.

I am using a keyboard/mouse config. I have a Logitech wingman but the right analog is screwy and i enter a permanent roll, so other than the left analog its basically useless. If anyone has suggestions to remap the default controls if you just want to use mouse/keyboard, greatly appreciated as well.

thanks!

If the logitech is "screwy" then that's what is turning off yout autopilot too. Unplug it. As for the mission, head up without a mission to do and find a few targets to practice on, get used to leading them, and used to the fact that different ships have different sized areas you can hit.

Once you're up to speed, try the mission again. You may have simply been flying during a very busy time on the servers and lately that's made it hard for many people to fly effectively.

I too use a mouse/keyboard config and love it. As the other poster stated, if you are not using your flightstick then unplug it. As for auto pilot, what I do is set one of my toolbar keys to Follow. Target the ship you want to follow hit your Alt button to turn the mouse steering off and hit your follow hot key. When you are ready to engage the enemy or move off in a different direction, just hit the Alt key again and off you go!

Hope this helps.

If you alter the ships direction while on autopilot, it will turn off. Make sure you ALT to the non-steering mode before selecting autopilot, that will fix your problem.

You are using the aiming aid to shoot. The little green dot that you can see in front of the tie fighter. Aim for that and you will sufficiently lead your shots and get hits.

The starting fighter is good enough to get all four tier one boxes with a little practice.
