Flight controls are terrible...
Every time I tried to fire whilst whizzing the mouse up and down the screen to get any movement i clicked on the icons onscreen.
Doesn't handle like a space ship...
Handles like a model on a stick held at arms length ... with a broken arm... in plaster ... from shoulder to wrist...!
Really thought this could have been a huge addition to SWG...
been playing for 1.5 years... on and off... just got this and ... well it sux...
won't be "jumping to lightspeed" (lol what a name for ship on stick play) again unless something is done about the controls...
This is not a space shoot em up, and it's NO WAY NEAR star wars space feeling...
on the other hand SWG itself... is awesome... so job done well.. (well half of one)

Good flight controls don't tend to have a mouse involved...... It sounds me the problem isn't JTL, but with what your trying to pass off as flight controls.

Lol, its your controls bud. you need to get a joystick.I bet you don't even have vertua joystick turned on (what you should use if you are using a mouse). Learn to use before you critisize.

I use a mouse all the time for flight (I don't really like joysticks), and I do just fine. You shouldn't be hitting the specials bar, for once you hit CTRL, the special bars will disappear and your pointer icon will turn into a targeting reticle.

Ok stand corrected it seems...
I will load it again, and try harder to get it to work... I pressed every key on keyboard and didnt once get a reticle... just had the yellow arrow...
I tried changing controls in options one by one (with pushing done) and it didn't help...
but I will try again 2morrow, maybe comp just bugging out...
so would i be correct in saying that it handles like say... Freespace , and most other space flight games?

If you're using a mouse, I'd compare it to Freelancer. But I use a joystick, and although the controls are more on the arcade side of things, I don't find them too bad. Might be a matter of preference, though.

My problem isn't the controls. My gripe is the fact that when you cap, you still have to do missions before the blasted NPC will teach you. I know the devs didn't intend for the player to power grind the pilot profession, but what about the people who just suck in combat and cap do to having to take the mission over and over. Yes, I admit i suck at space combat, but I can atleast take three or four ships down with me, and those numbers add up when you do a mission over and over.
Yes it's user error, but don't say it hasn't happen to you. I'm not referring to the suck part I mean cap in space and being force to do a mission to get trained.

You change modes with alt gr and alt buttons in space just as on the ground using the standard set up. If you have one of the newer keyboard set ups go to options, control and check the keymap.

the ships feel like they are in the atmosphere not in space.

If the mission is to difficult to solo, try it in a group.

This "cap-mission" thing has come up before. They did it because capping dosen't really take skill, just time. Anyone can be there for an hour and blast ships out the air. Missions are harder. It's a test to see if you're good enough to pass that Tier.
