OK so how does it work. Is there overt and covert in space or can an x-wing just take down a tie whenever we see one? What about neutral?

When your in space you go to either a Rebel Space station or an Imperial space station. At the station you convers with it and get an option to declare. Then you go off and kick some A**!

You declare at reb/imp space stations, otherwise you are covert.

But not to npc's, just other players, in an x wing , npc ties will always attack you.

To get to the deep space and kessel zones (high level areas) you HAVE to be declared, so they are , in effect, permanent PvP zones.

Privateers, who are neutral in the civil war in space, can also decare as reb or imp and got to these areas for PvP.

Only restrictions, if you are imp on the ground, you cannot be a reb pilot, and vice versa.

And unless they changed it there are open PvP areas in space (Kessel Run I believe is one). These are areas you will be warned before going into thatare open PvP areas in which anyone can attack anyone.

Can you have more than one pilot class to get addition ship certs, ie. reb and neutral or imp and neutral?

Nope, can only have one of the three.

No, you can only be part of one faction. As soon as you decide to change faction, you have to talk to your pilot trainer and ask him to make you forget all skills. You will then lose all pilot skills AND experience points allowing you to join another faction.
