1. Yes.

2. Yes, you can /duel in space

3. Your ship is towed to the nearest neutral space station, and you have to have it repaired. You can ask the station to do it for credits, or you can land and buy repair tools from a shipwright. Each repair will reduce the armor points and hitpoints of your ship's components.

4. Each piloting tree has roughly eqiuvalent ships. There's some details I'm glossing over, but you'll be able to find a good PvP ship in all 3 space factions.

5. You can't get to Deep Space without paying prestige points, which are earned like experience once you are a master (this is currently turned down to 0 points in the beta). You can go to Kessel at any time, but I don't recommend it in a tier 1 or 2 ship.

6. Missiles specifically, probably not. It's pretty hard to get a missile lock and then hit another player if they're a skilled pilot (countermeasures). However, you will need to spend a chunk of money for your ship, and possibly for it's components.

I posted a FAQ with some more information about JTL in general.

I'm baaaaaack
And it looks like I'll be going again.

Finally, with the NDA lifted, I can talk openly about this...

1) Yes

2) Yes

3) When your ship is destroyed, or when you eject, your ship is automatically re-spawned at the nearest friendly space station, where you can pay for repairs. Each time you die/eject, you gain wounds to your character's HAM (your ship does not recieve "wounds").

4) Yes, Rebel, Imperial, and Neutral pilots will each have their own unique special abilites.

5) You can't in your starter ship, but you can in any level ship after you learn 1/0/0/0 pilot.At1/0/0/0 and 2/0/0/0pilot, your ships are still fairly weak and not very good for large-scale pvp arenas, but they'll be fine for duels.

6) Yes and no. Missle packs are easy to make by shipwrights, but the actual missile launcher might be a little pricy. Don't worry, you'll pick up lots of ship parts when you kill other things in space. Player-crafted stuff will nearly always be better than what you'll find in space, but player crafted stuff will be expensive.

7) Some Tips:

1 - READ THE MANUAL!!! I don't know about any one else, but it really makes me mad when some newb didn't even read the manual and starts asking stupid questions. Thank god for the /addignore command.

2 -DON'T INTERFERE IN OTHER PEOPLE'S MISSIONS! It really pisses people off. Rule of thumb: If you see someone attacking a ship, leave their target alone, unless they ask you for help. Although there are things in place to prevent this from happening, there are some gaps in some missions where outside interfearence could ruin your mission, or make it last a lot longer than neccessary.

3 - I don't know if the devs are going to fix this or not, but the turrets in multi-passenger ship cannot be linked-fired by the pilot, even when there is no one in the turrets.

4 - If you're having a tough time killing something on a mission, get some help by adding people to your group.

5 - Hyperspace calculations take a while, whenever you jump into a potentially dangerous area, go ahead and select a new hyperspace destination on your hyperspace map, so all you need to do is bring up the map again and press the button. No sense waisting precious seconds when being chased by some tough ships trying to find somewhere to run to.

6 - When getting a ship made from a shipwright, ask that he or she max out the mass of the ship first (mass determines the maximum weght of all the stuff you can put in your ship), then spend any remaining experimental points on the hitpoints. You can always add heavier armor and stronger shields to compensate for any lack of hitpoints.

7 - When you get a set of blueprints (aka the ship chassis) from the shipwright, you'll have to pay a chassis dealer to convert the blueprints into a deed that will be placed in your inventory. Once you get the deed, you use the appropriate function on it's radial menu and the ship will be added to your data-pad.

8 - Capital ships are not availible for players to build/pilot.

9 - You can have a max of 2 ships in your data pad at any time, not including the lady luck veteran's reward ship.

10 - Make sure you have lots of room in your inventory, you'll be picking up tons of stuff from ships you blow up.

11- And last but not least, everything the devs say is true... from a certain point of view
