Right now space is at least stable, but Iwould like to see more action and fun in space then there is currently. Besides taking on a SD after you hit master, there's not much else to do, unless you want to head to Deep Space and fight a few TIEs/X-Wings. When I first heard of the Space Expansion, I had all these crazy ideas about flying in capital ships and stuff. I was disappointed to hear that only dogfighting would be supported in JtL. So here are some of my ideas that could be integrated into a future publish for JtL.

Imagine docking your X-Wing into a large Mon Calamari Cruiser that your city has just made/bought after a month of hard work. As you walk around the ship, you see a lot of your guildmates dashing down the halls to get to their battlestations or to get buffed (yes, buffed). After a minute or two, the Captain of the ship (who has earned X number of prestiege in order to fly the ship) sens an announcement to all people on board that they are ready to leave. The ship goes off into hyperspace and a loading screen pops up.

Soon, you finish loading and you head down to the hangars to locate your ship, which has been given some ship 'buffs' by a Shipwright you was tending to the ships in the hangar prior to leaving. You wait near your ship, awaiting orders for launch. As you stare out the hangar, you can't help but notice a Star Destroyer hovering in the distance. Just then you hear the Captain telling the pilots to enter their ships and get into formation. You open a radial menu on your ship, click the launch command and view a short loading screen (if necessary for ship interior to space transitions) You appear just outside of your ship, hovering next to 10 friendly X-wings. Below you, you notice several Y-wings and A-wings. You receive orders to attack, and off you go, speeding towards the enormous Star Destroyer ahead. You see fighters ahead, and open fire. Bombers just sped passed your group, so the A-wings make a U-turn to make sure they don't get to the capital ship you guys worked so hard to get. Y-wings make a beeline for the guns and shields on the Star Destroyer, while the X-Wings cover them.

General Layout:

A few more space zones could be added, large enough to hold a few capital ships and some player-made and operated space stations or mining facilities. As these zones will be player-populated, little or no content is needed. No NPC spawns or neutral stations. No Missions or nebulae would need to be in this zone, as all it will do is add complications or lag. The only things needed for this zone are asteroids.

Players Will flock to this areas because:

1) Special minerals would be harvested on the asteroids in these zones. Players would just place a harvesting station next to the asteroid they wish to mine. These stations would have high maintainance costs and limited life span, to persuade people not to camp the locations. These minerals, however, would be necessary to make the reactors / engines for a large ship. These asteroids would be placed on the outskirts, as to not interfere with the movement of thenew massive ships. Not much of these special minerals would be needed, to prevent people from believing they need to have a harvestor set up 24/7 for months on end.

2) Players would be able to construct their own space stations. Maybe the same costs as player cities. These too, would only be buildable on the outskirts. These stations could include mission terminals, cantinas, hospitals, large ballrooms with dome cieling for parties, vendors, or (if they get put in) Sabaac and Holochess tables. If the devs want to take it far enough, it could include player housing as well. These stations would take up lots depending on size. Players would also be allowed to construct shipyards here if they wish to make larger ships. (more on this below)

3) These zones will be PvP enabled to Rebels and Imperials. Freelance pilots are allowed to enter and explore freely. Large-scale battles could occur in these zones. Maybe rewards could be given to the faction who occupies the zone the most during the week.

Shipyards:

Shipyards would be buildable by master architects for construction of large ships. Possibly a limit of 1 or 2 ships per shipyard to give architects some business that is needed at the moment

Shipyards would take 5 or so days to build a ship, assuming the players put in all the needed resources. Shipwrights would make the parts, and place them into the 'hopper' of the station. The shipyard would work like a factory until the next part is needed. Each time a part is completed, it would be nice to see gradual construction of the ship inside the station. If the devs want to take it far enough, allow the station to be boarded by the opposite faction at vulnerable times to try to destroy the shipyard. This would work like a factional HQ. If it is destroyed, the ship is scrapped.

Capital Ships:

Capital ships would be able to be taken down by other capital ships, or by fighters. It would be about 10 timesmore difficultto do with fighters, but it is possible if it is swarmed, or if the ship has little fighter defense. Each time a ship is destroyed, all components get destroyed, and the ship's max hp is dropped by a small amount. This would prevent scenarios where every guild would have a ship, and then the zones would be filled up with dozens of ships. However, make it rewarding to have a ship. Possibly give each guild member who helped get the ship/defend it massive faction points for destroying enemy ship. These people would be designated by the owner of the ship through a terminal (like an admin list). Every time that captain is victorious against an opposing capital ship, all members on that list get a split faction points reward. Maybe even large amounts of credits.

These are just ideas that I had, and hope that the devs one day put in something like this. This would make SWG unique from all other MMO's as well as any other game out there today. SWG is going to have some tough competition with WoW and Star Trek Online. This kind of system, I believe, would be enough to keep everyone playing SWG, as well as drag in countless other people. Simply more loot and a combat revamp alone will not keep people playing. SWG needs a system to keep people playing. Something that will be new and exciting every time. Currently, SWG has ground based combat like this, but since combat is supposingly broken, it is no longer working. However, this new system would open up the game to a much wider variety of players, not just MMO players exclusively. This would drag in people who love twitch-based combat as well.

I like the idea about being able to dock with the ship and walk around in it. That would be really cool. As far as the other stuff goes, i have no idea if some of it would even work.

It's been commented that this can't be done not because of the lack of ability, but the lack of technology.

I've said that the ISD and Freedom Station need a SIMPLE docking function, leading to a single room with a single starship station in it to reload CMs and missiles (or possibly weapons and armor). Nothing fancy, but a place to temporarily land would be nice.

I agree, it doesnt have to be super fancy, but just having the ability to reload, repair, and maybe switchout components in space would be great.

On busy nights the load time for landing can take forever.
