When you are given the mission to go talk to the Lt Colonel in Yavain at the imperial station, how do you complete this?

I don't even get a journal entry in my quest journal about it, and when I go to Yavin I go to each Imperial Space station and comm them but I just get the standard convo options.

How do I continue?

Go to the Imperial base ON Yavin and you'll find the NPC you need to talk to standing behind the starport.
