Thread: Help with Rebel mission, From Dathomar outpost, Tier three

I am currently 2/2/2/2 pilot, I'm doing the tier three mission, the very first one, from the bothan in the dathomar cantina. First part of the mission is to capture a shuttle, no problem. Second part, meet with alliance shuttle and dock, no problem. Third part, meet another alliance shuttle, here's were the problem starts. In spawn three tier 3 ties. I'm fighting them okay when another 4 spawn in. Okay. About the time I'm down to 2 or 3 left, then four tier 3 tie-in spawn in and I get swarmed. HTH am I supposed to finish this mission? I understood that most groups should have solo-able missions until around tier 4 exit missions.

Any Advice?

I'm not a Rebel but I did have a similar mission as a CorSec pilot. I would try and finish the primary objective, which if I'm not mistaken, is to dock with the other craft. Don't fight any of the enemies, fly past them to your target, dock, and then fight. In simpler terms, dock and let it be on it's way. Before you do the mission, maybe you need to buy better shields/weapons. Like I said, I did a SIMILAR mission and this method worked fine.

JtL teaches as you go, and this is one of the final harder lessons in individual mission segments. By now you know about Escort, Capture, Survival, etc. This is called a run and gun. The key your question (HTH do you get past it) is to remember your goal. Your goal is that waypoint. Get there as fast as you can, because the ships are thrown in your way to try and slow you down. If you let them slow you down, they win.

Good ways to get past this:

Fly fast- the quicker you get there, the less time waves have to spawn. If your engine can outrun the TIEs, then do so. They may catch up, but you should have time to dock, and you should be tough enough to soak the damage from one pass.

Pilot Specials- The single most handy pilot special in the Rebel arsenal is one you already have. IFFScamble. Once that first wave of fighters pops, boost past them. Get a bit ahead while they turn to chase, and hit your scramble. Great way to buy a ton of time.

Disable instead of kill- Knocking out engines is faster than a kill, and leaving a full wave of disabled ships will delay the next spawn. You wont get xps, but that's not what you're on this mission for is it?

Bring a gunner or wingman, hijinks ensue- To tell the truth, the AI is dumb. I mean really dumb. Sucker punch it by engaging in the fly fast tactic I mentioned, but spice it up by flying a Ywing with a gunner, or letting a wingman tail you. They will have the easiest time shooting you have ever ever ever seen.

Thanks for the advice. I have a Y-wing with the best tier 4/5 shields/armor/weapons I can find. I guess I should try to just fly through them to get to the next waypoint. If I don't have to destroy them, then I won't

Okay, what I was trying to say in my post was portrayed in much better detail in the post above. Listen to it. It illistrates the method better than I did.

Ahhh but please tell me if you find a gunner, and if it does not then become the most fun you've had in space so far

Okay, thanks for ALL the advice. I finally got past it. Best advice, don't even engage the fighters, just dock. I did that and took some hits while docking, but you can still do shield shunting while docking. Once that was done, I'd hightail it to the next waypoint and if I was being followed, THEN I'd use the IFF scramble. Worked like a charm. I can't outrun the ties, but if I save my IFF until the mission was over and I needed to get to the next waypoint, I could get away. I actually only took a few hits to the front armor the entire time, and none to my rear armor.

I have had a gunner before and it was fun, but I found that two ships working together is MUCH better because it goes faster. However, the rear gunner does give you that much needed back protection, which a wingman may not be able to give you 100% of the time.

Again, thanks all for the advice, it worked great.
