I've had that sometimes. Try another asteroid until a chunk breaks off then get that.
Sometimes Asteroid ** 1 seems to work better.

The asteroids have a certain number of "hit points". Examine it to see this.
If the hit points are fairly low, then that means it's been "mined" dry already. You can still shoot at it until it loses all it's points. It will then respawn (instantly) and you can begin mining the new "fresh" asteroid. As you mine it, it's hitpoints will begin to reduce again....

Just figured out how to "examine." With the Asteroid targeted, type /examine. You'll see the HP left on it.

So if I'm shooting an asteroid with thw mining lazers and the cargo hold equiped in my ship, it means I'm mining it?
And How can I check how much I've mined already?

Yes, exactly. You can check your cargo hold on the ground to see what you've got in it (Datapad). Also, as you are mining, you'll receive messages about the percentage of your hold that you've filled. I'm sure that there is a way to do it in space, but I can't think of it right now.

What helped me (thanks to sky' in corbantis for the tip) was to hyperspace in the same sector, that would "reset" the bugged asteroids, I finished the quest, but now that I got my Y-8 ship, I cant fly it, unless I empty one of my other POB ships.... (only 2 allowed with decorations I guess).
