Sorry, no.
Only NPC cities starports and spaceports will support launch and landing.

Why? You expect every single settlement on an entire planet to have appropriate facilities for the storage, maintainance and repair of things as big as a YT-1300? Of course not.
Think of it this way. Shuttleports are like Subway or Bus stations. Starports are like Airports. There isn't an Airport in every city, is there? It would make no sense.
Now, thats not to say that I don't think takeoff/landing facilities would be cool...just not in EVERY player city. Maybe a factional landing field could be created. Or, for Master Politicians, with the co-operation of Master Architects, Master Shipwrights and so forth, there could be a city-owned Starport...but a very expensive one. JTL is not there to replace the shuttle system. Its there to provide space combat. If it was just a glorified shuttle service, it'd be kinda boring, wouldn't it?
So it costs you a couple a' hundred credits to shuttle to the Starport from home. *shrug* Its not really that much. If you think it is...move to one of the settlements that's stuck around the edge of an NPC city.

We've got the Devs thinking about putting Starship Terminals in the Rebel Base on Dantooine (there are Rebel Pilot missions taken from there), Jabba's Palace (Privateers working for the criminal underground do missions here for a bit) and the Emperor's Retreat (Imperials do missions here). They said they would take it under heavy consideration, though I don't recall hearing anything more about it afterwards.

I don't know... Getting ahuge list of player cities to chose from when you try to land on a planet would mainly be annoying. It works fine as it does, and keeps a money sink in game (the shuttle system).
It would rock if you could actually land your ship anywhere though, but...

One of the things that was said i believe at fan fest , trying to remember, they mentioned the Data base looks at Player cities are temporary structures. The way the Star ship terminals work is different in the way it reads the database. It been a while since I heard it so cant recall everything.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't recall the necessity of landing at an starport(in the movies)?
If so what the heck was ole ben doing on Genosis?Or on the asteroid or blah blah...
I assume you must not land your own ship kinda like the shuttle system flies for ya.
One would think ya could land the craft wherever you like but your ship would suffer the consequences.
PEACE
