when i went into space today with both the yatch and the lite tie, I get a message saying, " you have reached the limitations of you sublight engines, move closer to the core or go to hyperspace.. What does that mean??

You are running out of space

Well at least you are at the edge of "playable" space, for that zone, hence hyperspace to another or turn around.

ahh thanks that makes more sense, here i am worrying that my engines were going to die lol DOH!!!

This is not always the case. I have just launched into space and am near the space station and I will get that message too

I find it quite funny.

I think it shuts down your engines and you have to turn around...

I remember that I left JTL running while I was eating dinner onceduring beta to see if I could crash into Tatooine... When I came back my engines were shut off.
