Most flight sims allow you to swtich the camera into a 3rd person padlock view with your ship / planefixed in the foreground and your enemies ship is followed or "padlocked" in the background... to allow the player to judge the comparative trajectories and decide tactics and manuevers. Some go a step further (like XWING ALLIANCE) and allow you to "head track" your enemy from the cockpit view as well.
Does JTL have a 3rd person padlock or 1st person head-trackcamera view?
If you have arotating or side firingturret, padlock view is also very handy for making broadside passes atan enemy... since turrets' arc allows oneto shoot at an enemy without actuallyflying straight towards them. This adds an EXPONENTIALvariety to combat and tactics.

I am not aware of a padlock in the game. To be honest I've never made much use of them even in flight sims.
