Thread: Disabling Ships?

Lately I've been trying to complete the "Steal Imperial Fighters" mission from the Rebel Pilot Trainer on Yavin 4 that you are refered to after you finished with the missions on Tatooine. However I can't seem to disable the TIE Bomber mission target. I take out his TIE Fighter escorts then carefully shoot the bomber a single shot at a time, waiting for the damage to be fully applied to it before shooting again. But everytime I do thisand get the Bomber near death it'll keep running normal until a shot finally destroys it outright. Is there some specific point on the Bomber I have to shoot at in order to just disable it? Or a specific command I have to use to? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Where can I find nerfs and do I have to be a creature handler in order to herd them?

Disabling is easy. You just have to remember to use the component Target Keys.

[ and ] use these after you target and in the uper right and target window you will see the ships components display. Just make sure you stop shooting after you disable a ship component cause it automatically targets the ship again.

Once a component is gone the ship will stop you will need to be within 50m i belive and inspect using the I key. Then you can dock using the /dock command. dependiong on missions different things happen. Like automatic capture or you dock and get loot ofr a mission.

Hope this helps

yep and as a general tip. I always target the engines of anything Im killing. That was you can disable it and come back and finish it off as you sits dead in space. Makes killing much faster.

On my keyboard (Italian) the buttons to target components are "ò" and "ì"

The keymap sheet inserted in the italian copy of JTL says they are "[" and "]" but it's wrong.

So either you use those buttons or you rebind them

I do the same thing and I am starting to believe that it's a cheap manuver.

Does the NPC have the /jumpstart commands?

Can the enemies help one another with repairs like we can?

I just think disabling is cheap unless it can be countered.

It can be countered, dont get shot, then you dont take damage to your engines at all. If the AI isnt smart enough to duck and jive then they deserve to be wiped out.

During the Beta I would disable a targets reactor, and they'd still fly around and return fire. Has that been fixed yet? I'm sorry, but if I take out the ships reactor, EVERYTHING should be shut down.

I guess my point is...we can repair ourselves and jump start ourselves when we get disabled...

Can the NPC's??

If they can't, that's not fair and needs to be balanced IMHO, or disabling will become cheap.

THREEPIO: Did you hear that? They've shut down the main reactor. We'll be
destroyed for sure. This is madness!

Well if that's your concern, it's already unbalanced. Unless they changed it after I stopped flying in Beta, you could only Jumpstart someone else's ship, and only rebels could use it. If you can jumpstart your own ship once it's been disabled.. something isn't right there...
