Understanding the mouse in sapce is alot easier if your not using the stupid EQ controls on ground. go to option and switch to SWG controls and itll start to make more sence. If you already are using SWG controls, its the same thing in space as on gorund, hit alt.

Secondly, NEVER land without first repairing at the station. at no point in JTL do you need repair kits, space station can do it all.

thirdly as far chat windows in space.... Its a differant UI than on ground so you need to set it up the way you like it.

Oh, and never eject if you have the money for full repairs, there is a bug still happening where if you do most likely you will get 200 more wounds and BF instead of 100

Instead of trying to repair the newbie ship you were given just destroy it on your datapad, drop your pilot skills (since it was your first time up you wont lose anything at all) you drop the pilot skills at the trainer for the faction in the email you first rec'd in the game. Once you do that just join that pilot faction again or a different oneand you will get another newbie ship this one at full parts condition so you dont have to worry about repairing it.

Or get a heavy (crafted) starter ship, earn T1 components, and load it up with the heaviest L3 badboys you can find.

When you get close to a station (like after being blown up), hit 'C' to target the station, then '\' to comm with it. You can pay for repairs there.

Never gone link dead midfight and when you come back you're on the ground eh? When it tells ya you can't launch, you most assuredly DO need repair kits.

so i try to kill some TIE fighters and they kick the hell out of me cant run away it seems when i died it told me to eject again i need mouse pointer then it blows up drops me in ship at station cant move cant comm nothing just sitting there with no option but to quit and then when i get back in game im on tatooine with 800 wounds and 800 battle fatigue a totally knackered ship and when i try to repair it at the terminal like it says in book it says i have no repair kits.

so now what my only ship is dead ihave no repair kits and 800 wounds

oh yes and all my customised chat windows have gone too((((((((((((((((((

Well if you'd bother to read the manual, you'd know pressing alt will switch you to pointer mode so you can use the mouse.

Secondly if you really want to do well in space, get a joystick.

Dying in space does suck. I'm still running around with 703 wounds that I recieved about a month ago.... doesn't effect you in space.

You just have to keep plugging at it. Most people prefer a joystick for flying, but I've been doing pretty damn good with a mouse. You just need to keep practicing and you'll eventually get it. Space is a lot of fun.

If anything, do ground combat a try for alittle, till you get enough money to repair your ship and get back to it.

Joystick is optional, and can make things a little easier in the first tiers, but later on in the game using a mouse will drastically improve your accuracy and makes alot of difference. Atleast it did for me. And the learning curve on using the mouse is actually verylow as long as you set the controls to something you like.

W - Throttle up

S - Throttle down

Shift-W - 100% Throttle

Shift-S - 0% Throttle

A - Roll left

D - Roll right

Q - Target under reticle

E - Boosters

F - Custom macro for setting throttle to 60% (/throttle 0.60)

F - Alternately you can set this to Match Speed (I do when I pilot my JSF)

Mouse1 - Fire group 1 (Group 1 set to blasters)

Mouse 2 - Fire group 2 (Group 2 set to missles/torps/etc.)

Mouse 3 - Fire group 3 (Group 3 set to countermeasures)

With this setup I have absolutely no problems outmaneuvering NPCs or other players, and my hit rate is probably upwards of 90%.

It took me a while to get used to it. Within three hours I finished tier 1 piloting, had over 60k loot from sellables and credits, and had figured out how to play and loved it. Do a search and find the keyboard map... they have pics of keyboards with the hot keys on them. It REALLY helps to see it. At a glance I can do anything I need. I rarely need to hit alt and use the mouse mode... it just takes getting used to, you can't instantly be a master.

May the Force be with you...
