Thread: Which ship to use for tier 4? High Mass Syck, DL, or Rhik?

Right now, I have two ships and I'm trying to decide which one would be best for tier 4 to master.

Dunelizard - good all purpose ship with two guns and decent performance.

High Mas Syck - GREAT dogfighter; can hang with Awings and has enough room (barely) for even the most powerful components. The only downside is it only has one gun.

Rhik - I'll need to get my first tier 4 box; should I go with ships and get the rhik or components and use one of the other two?

The syck suits my style, OTOH so does the DL so that's a wash. I prefer the syck, but is it viable in PvE with only one gun once I get into the tier 4 and above missions? Itis going to be my PvP ship; it's hard to see with it's camo paint and texture job and I think one gun is sufficient for PvP. Am I wrong?

My current loadout:

Shields - 1771 f/r (they were 1850 until I installed them, what's up with that?)

Engine - speed: 92.4 y/p/r: 60

Reactor - power: 134400

Blasters - energy: 1375-2800

Armor - Uh, what's that? (Actually I use anything I have laying around, or none at all)

Missles - seismic missles (IF I have room and IF I happen to have some ammo lying around)

Droid Interface - speed: 25

I use all of the tier 3 droid programs, plus IFF scramble and pirate trap

Any suggestions?

if u like it with much firepower.. go with the rhik. my favorit: style 4

My Kimo is my mining ship. It's pretty impressive when you let loose with those three guns. But the field of view it too restrictive for me. I love the syck because you can see so well from the cockpit. The DL is almost as good. Never been inside a rhik, so I don't know how that is.

I also like the style 4s.

Whoe134400 reactor power. I want one of these bad boys lol. I am guessing that is 13400 power. But ya try out the Kimo its an amazing ship. Three guns decent mass and not bad PYR. Not the best as I am sure ill trade over to the Krayt when I master. But i have been using the kimo since tier two. And im 4433 and can solo tier 4 duty missions in the dam thing.

Sorry, that's the power rating of my RL startship. In game it's 13400. If it had a better cockpit view, the Kimo would be the way to go. As it is, I can fight off just about anything in it, so I may give it a try. I built 2 class 3 mining lasers for it but I would have to switch them out. They are blinding when you fire them; too hard to see your target in combat. But they are pretty effective.

Btw, how many missions in tier 4. Or is it all xp?

Just my feeling, but a heavy scyk isn't viable in tier4 combat (especially when missions may or may not be timed) unless you are re-Acing and had the chance to load an L10 gun in it. Big gun makes up for the lack of firepower, but even so I noticed my kill speed in heavy NPC missions was slower.

I've always preferred the DL over other standard Freelance ships, as it has 'good' handling and 'good damage potential, with 'acceptable' mass. After using TIEs for a while, I was never able to enjoy a Rihk again, as the beast is simply to slow to turn or change speeds.

The question asks for an opinion, so don't be surprised when 6 people give 6 different answers. psiko is right, though, in that a single weapon will need to be quite a high 'damage per second' one in order to bring down Tier 4 and 5 ships at an acceptable rate.

I loved my dunelizard, but when I tried out a rhik, there was no turning back for grinding purposes. You can load 3 guns, heavy shields, armor and just about whatever else you could want on it which makes it very nice for grinding at a fast pace.

Granted it won't win many races or out maneuver many ships, but it will allow you to end fights fast and live to tell about them.

I loved the Rhik.

It looks like the Rhik is the PvE favorite until you get to the Krayt. So, should I get the rhik first or go for the components? I've got at least one of each style, does it matter which rhik you pick?

I used a Kimo as soon as I could get it, which I kept until I got the Ixiyen - which was a really sweet and very agile ship and served me well until Tier 4. Once I got the right components in it, my Rhyx was unstoppable. I was able to solo my way through all missions except the final Master mission because of these ships.

Speed is nice, maneuverability is nice... but these things alone won't protect you. And a ship with one gun is going to take three times longer to get the job done than a ship with three. The Rhyx has the mass to allow you to mount excellent firepower and protection and still have plenty left over for an agile engine and a fast booster.

Even after making Master, I've still kept my Rhyx. The Krayt sounds good at first glance, but 220 tons isn't enough to mount equipment that's much better than the 193 tons I've got in the Rhyx.

At Tier 4, it's always best to get the chassis tree first - components sounds nice, but level 8 stuff is all looted, and the good stuff is mostly reverse engineered - read as, scarce and expensive (what SW would charge less than 64k for a level 8 RE component when he could sell the parts to a chassis broker for that?). Well-made level 7 components in a ship that can take everything you load into it is a better choice.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I think I'll do the ship box first. I went to Kessel for the first time to take on my first tier 5 gunboat in my DL. It took forever to wear down its shields and in the end I got blown up because I kept drifting out of the sweet spot. I tried it twice before deciding to come back with a either a bigger gun or a bigger ship with more guns.

Actually, with some practice, it doesn't look that hard to take on one gunship with what I got. If I wasn't grinding for XP I would spend more time practicing GB killing, but I want to get that first tier 4 box ASAP. Messing around with a GB takes too long right now. But it was fun. It's been so long since I got blown up, I forgot what it was like. After I get that first box, me and "Rhik" will be paying those Imp gunboats another visit.

One more question, is the first tier 4 box XP only? If there is a mission, what is it?

Thanks again everyone.

I *really* like my Kimo except that it has way too many power hogging components so my power is in the red by 2k

Tier 4 is a hybrid tier - you train when you have enough xp, then do another mission before you can get the next box.

Often, pilots will go into Tier 4 with enough xp banked to get their first skill prior to doing the first mission (I don't remember what the first Tier 4 SA mission was, sorry).
