I'm doing the freelance pilot tree. I joined up with the RSF because my guild is based on Naboo. Now I know that the RSF is closely affiliated with the Empire, but the trainer dialogue options referring to "I'm only in this for the money" made it seem like I could go ahead and be a mercenary (ie fly alongside both Imperial and Rebel guildmates). I flew with an Imperial buddy some and had a blast. Then I tried grouping with a Rebel friend. He got jumped by TIEs. I discover that I can't fight TIEs. I shoot them and get the "cannot hurt target" sound. So basically I'm an Imperial who flies Privateer ships. Now this in and of itself is fine, but I wish I'd known before signing up so that I could make an informed decision. Now I have to decide whether I want to give up all my piloting skills and re-earn the exact same ones all over again just so I can fly with all my friends.

Help me out. Which Privateer paths are allied with the Empire? Are there ones allied with the rebels? What about true neutral? Can the neutral ones attack any NPC ship or are they barred from hitting both factions?

It seems that it is that way. But that defeats the whole purpose of being a "privateer". Ah well.

Thanks. Can a Smuggler's Alliance pilot fire on both Rebel and Imperial ships, or are they prevented from harming both?

Nope, we can fire on both.

someone also mentioned that corsec can fire on both.
