Thread: Tactics... what do you use?

During beta and into live I've been playing with a few tactics I'd like to share. Many others have thought of these, but for those who haven't or for those who wish to suggest other alternate tactics... here's mine for starters:

Vs. Tier 1 ships:

Doesn't take much to take these guys out. Simply target one and follow the arrow. For the most part these guys will stick to a single turning arc letting you fire at will. Make sure to adjust your speed to allow you to turn faster if you are having problems.

Should someone fire on you from behind and you are worried about damage, break off pursuit by rolling and turning in the opposite direction you were just heading. This shakes most Tier 1 ships.

Vs. Tier 2 ships

For the most part the above tactic works the same. However, Tier 2's will usually spend more time on your rear while you are firing at his buddy. If turning in the opposite direction doesn't help, try slamming on the brakes (i.e. throttle to 0) for a moment and get him to buzz past you.

Vs. Tier 3 ships

These guys can usually turn faster than you can and do much more damage to the front of your shields than you can to thiers. Try using your booster to zip passed him, before he finishes his arc... this seems to confuse the NPC into taking a longer turning arc. Throw the throttle to 50%, turn and you should be on his tale... Make sure you feather the throttle forward and back to stay on his back side.

Watch his Tier 3 buddies when they sneak up on ya. They don't shake easily and throttling down will sometimes lead them to do the same. Assuming you are "pulling up" while firing at a target, try this instead, stop pulling up, roll 90-degrees (right or left)from your previous position, pull "up" as youhit the booster, release the boosterthen roll 90-degrees again (either direction) and turn (same direction as you rolled the first time)at throttle 50%. This often gets the enemy out from behind you without loss of speed. It puts you in a direction roughly 180-degrees from the direction you were travelling while varying your speed to help reduce the number of hits on you.

Look into getting high pitch and roll rates on your engines for even better performance for this type of manuever.

Vs. Tier 4 ships

Anyone? Thoughts?

On Tier 4 and 5 ships, I throttle down to my "sweet spot" as they're charging me, then, just as they're about 100m in front of me, still charging, I whip a 180 and hammer the throttle and BAM!! I'm on their six unloading my capacitor on their @$$ as they're constantly turning trying to circle back to me.

As your targeting is spiraling trying to get around to you, his wingmen usually have a hard time figuring out what the hell to do.
