Thread: Landed Ships Idea...

This would work great in conjunction with what I posted in the smuggler thread:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=223977

My idea is that the devs take all of the ship models (most of which already have a "landed" version of them) and allow the ships tobe placed like structures from the datapad. This would be primarily excellent for the larger ships (with landings down) so that players could freely make trips loading the ship with supplies and add a great deal more realism to the game. Then they could launch to space by the pilot sitting in the pilot chair and initiating the launch sequence (which would take the players on board to a loading screen and then to space). From outside, players would get an animation of the loading ramp closing and the ship taking off (like the transport shuttle).

These special structures would have the same build rules as other stuctures and a minimal amount of terriforming would be acceptable.

Please feel free to add your ideas and suggestions, but please try to use ideas that would require little code or system changes. Like wise, be try to keepthe ideas constructive (the devs like that). Thank you.

The day I can land next to the Jawa fortress and start unloading crates and crates of smuggled (ok, collected, God knows we'll never be allowed to really smuggle...) weapons and other crap form my YT, will be a happy day. It would be on of the best improvements possible for the game, and a good way to link ground and space play (now if only we could use this idea in smugglin'). I do thank this option should only be for POB ships, it'd give you another reason to use them. We should probably have some kind of time limit too (you should at least have to fly them every now and then, they are ships after all), otherwise certain areas would look like trailer parks, lol.

i know i'd rather have this then capitol ships. Like imagine having your ship landed with the hatch open and you need to make a quick escape from a bounty hunter just go in close the doors and fly away. If the bh is close enuf he can stow away in it, or throw a tracking device.

like imagine a jedi flying away with the ship happy that the bh didnt get him. But it turns out the bh is in the back of the ship so he comes up, jedi is all happy then a couple of laser bolts later hes lying on the ship incaped for 1 min so hes dead for sure, the bh ejects and the ship blows up along with the jedi.

I just wanted to add that it'd also be nice if there were more starport around cities. Of course, you'd have to pay a very large parking fee (like, $5,000 credits) if there was an available starport, but it'd be a nice addition. Not only is it more true to the movies, but it would also add to the already existing cities. Maybe 1 new generic starport that includes 4 or 5 ports to land at at one starport (like mos eisley's in the movie) to place in the larger cities would be nice. Of course, ships would still be aloud to"pulled out"/placedon the outskirts of town (same distances as houses or up to half that distance).

I don't think it would turn into an "RV Park" in places because the ship would "packup" when you logged out (like vehicles). I know that the devs haven't implimented something like this in the past because they wanted people to still travel to the cities first. Well, in the system I described above (in my initial post), it requires that you first land at an NPC city. The player must then hike/ride out to where they wanted to pull their ship out at (their house, guild, jawa trade city, Jabba's palace, or where ever) first. All this does is allow for a little more realism/immersion and accessiblitiy to their ship from the ground (for loading supplies, ect.)

I don't think the devs really know how little things like this would add greatly to the environment that they have created.

Well, it would be awesome if they would allow level 5 Player Cities to have somekind of spaceport. And I think they could quite easily do it in a way that would still keep enough people going through the NPC cities too.You could limit the player city to one starport with maybe four of five landing bays/pads, and to land in one of these bays you would have to have permission from the city mayor or militia. Furthermore, once you landed your ship there, it would stay there until you launched back into space again. That way, the rest of the citizens would still have to go through an NPC city; and the devs would be happy. Hopefully. I really think that player cities need some more space oriented structures to make them more star warsy... Just my two cents.

I would agree if I didn't like the whole idea of player cities in the first place. I feel like they should of made it so that players could build next to the cities in "city blocks" so that the make the major cities actually look...well...major? <scratches head> But that's for another thread...

It would be nice to get some more feedback and/or support on this topic. Thanks.

I'm a die-hard imperial, ground and space. I certainly, would love to see more interaction between 'dirtside' and the space sectors (such as landing ships as this thread indicates).

In one of the above posts the mention of a smuggler landing to unload goods was mentioned, can you imagine the added tension to that moment if you knew there was a stormtrooper (preferably player characters) unit out to find your landing spot? Or perhaps a raid from multiplayer ships on an as-yet-undisclosed location?

Ideas, they keep communities alive.

Oh yeah, by the by, it take me about 3-5 minuites to load space/dirt either way.

what they should have is the current list of starports at the landing stations and then a "Land on Surface" option and that would let you land anywhere. no flight though you would just load and then your ship would be like a big surface building with windows. id love to land my Sorosuub right near my harvesters for example since the yacht is now my house.

side question... how long does it take you guys to load the screen to launch into space/land on the ground?
