Dont think there was ever a screen where u could choose you faction and squadron.
And yea, you should get 3 mails nearly as soon as you start.

It's been a while and my memory is a little foggy but I remember a screen that had 3 rotating icons (Imp, Reb, Privateer) on the left and selecting one would give bring up details about the faction on the right. Maybe you couldn't actually select which to use in-game but it at least told about the factions and squads.

Do you have JTL activated with your second account ? You only get the mails if you bought jtl.

Yea I got the Total Experience. I did eventually find out about the factions and squadrons through the new player quests but never got the emails. I wonder if maybe the emails aren't sent now that they set up those new quests...

I started a new character the other night and got the three emails before I even left the space station.

I remember that little screen that popped up too...
I bought JTL in box-form and enabled it, next time I logged in it had that little screen with three factions, then a brief description of the squadrons and whatever....

I've been playing for nearly a year now and I've created a few toons over the time I've been around. Now, If I remember correctly when creating a toon or shortly thereafter, there would be a screen where you could pick which space faction and squadron you want. And I even remember receiving emails from the three factions trying to recruit me.
Now today, I started up a second account and created my character and I've seen nothing related to space factions/squadrons! I know I could probably find a trainer and get started, especially as an older player Ihave an idea ofwhat to search for. But how are new players supposed to get into the wonderful world of JTL?
Either some step was skipped somewhere in here and I have a bug to report or the Devs made a very bad decision in removing those initial choices.

yeah, but i think once RotW went live, that got disabled.
they used to use something similar around the time of march 2004, but shortly thereafter, it was changed. you used to be able to choose which planet u start on (naboo, corellia, talus or tatooine, something like that) but then they changed it and force all the noobs to go to eisley, thus eisley becoming noobville, SWG

I agree! The new way seems very odd. What if a newbie suddenly decided to wander off and not bother with the intro NPC?

Exactly! Heck, for me with the new toon if it wasn't for the mos eisley badges I would have skipped the npc stuff all together and then totally missed it.
