Should I be using? I'm starting pilot today. Already mastered Rebel with my alt. Thanks.

I recommend the Dunelizard, then the long Rixhykikskx thing. Both have good mass and more than 1 weapon port. Obviously the Krayt is a good choice, but getting to it is a long way off.
Get a good dunelizard, then wait til 3/2/2/2 and upgrade.

It all also depends on your flying style and personal preference.
As in the example above, I've got a Dunelizard and Rihkxrhk(sp?). For the mass it has, the Dunelizard is extremely nimble and can take a fair beating, whereas the other handles like a dog, but has a hell of a lot more mass allowing for heavier punchier components.
I flew my Rixk for about 1/2 an hour then went back to my Dunelizard - I couldn't cope with not being able to turn as quick as I'd like

I liked the Kimo too, but it is kind of useless after you get the Rihk. I just wish they'd give us a ship with more than one missle mount because it's kind of sad that our 'bombers' can do more damage with our guns than our ordinance. Even better, I wish they would allow SWs to configure the number of weapon points - but I digress...

I love my Ryhk, I feel like comfortable with its performance and my firepower is far beyond any other fighters. My combined canon damage is close to 10k, with 2k shields and 1k armor on front and back, all this goodies allow me to fly safely in any region around any enemy groups (exept gunboats/corvetts). And I dont see where all of this crap about its bad handling comming from, it cankeep up with any other fighter with right throttle/joystic manipulations.

The Kimogila has decent weapons but sucks at pitch/yaw/roll so dunelizard is best choice until you hit tier4 for the Rhyxirk.

I personally went with the Dunelizard all the way. I got a ryhk for just the last teir 4 mission. If you still have your pre-nerf reward engine from Rebel you will be all set in the Dunelizard. I myself dropped rebel Ace and and got the FreeLance Ace in one week. I also solo'd all of them with the exception of the two Ace missions.
BTW I am loving the YT-1300. My Krayt is just sitting docked until I find the uber cool stuff for it. But the Dunelizard in my mind is the best all around small fighter ni the game.

My progression was: Scyk, Dunelizard, Kimogilla, Rhik, Kryat. (Mass is your daddy and you all know it!!)
I tried Ixi and Kihr as well, but they weren't for me at the time.

Dunelizard for sure. I still use mine all the time even at Master Pilot (cept when I roll the YT or the Firespray:smileytongue

Those the three I have deeded also: lizzy, kryat and the yt, tho my lizzy isn't outfitted quite like I hope to have her someday and the yt is a decoration farm till plasma bugs get fixed and maybe some real shields/armor are given for mp ships
