Thread: we need more freighters not just fighters.

just looked at the new ships for ROTW.


I'd like to see more freighters. ( they don't all have to be a POB ship)


maybe 1 turrnet gunner for rear on some too,


but with a pure crafter i would like to have a ship. that looks the part of a business man, not just a souped up fighter.


and the yacht still eats up a building lot. for me so thats out...

(thought POB ships were suppose to not count any more on lots)

Ok, I agree with the assesment that we need more freeighters. There are plenty in the Genre that could easily be put into the game. My problem is that, as yet, there still is no way for a freighter ( or any other ship) to land anywhere but at a star port. There should be at leat limited atmospheric flight. Even if they did not allow fighters, and did not allow any weapons operation. I'd love to be able to land a YT-1300 in a feild and load up my cargo on the QT, just to make it more realistic.

but right now it'd be a coding nightmare and probably need a new system to support it, if they work on it now it'd probably be up for testing early next year.


It took JTL awhile to be released, I think they had started working on it a few months before galaxies was released, or probably at the same time

i have a easy solution to this. when the mining ships are added with the rotw expansion, just make it so that the mined ore cant be just landed to the planet by the mining ship. it would need to be transfered to a cargo ship and that one could land on the planet.

Yes, but I would think that a miniung ship IS a cargo ship as well.

I mean, if it can mione it and carry the stuff it mines it should be able to land as well.

Main thing though is right now there is no real use for larger ships. If they implement Planets that you must Travel to by personal Ship then carrying passengers would be useful. If Asteroid Mining requires a ship that can hold Cargo then it will also be useful. Hopefully in the future they make some Pilot mission terminals that offer stuff like Cargo Delivery. But until we get some reasons to own Large Ships its kind of a waste even putting them in the game as no one will use them.

Also atmospheric flight would be the untimate. I am hoping that withing a couple of years the game will still be alive and the technology has inproved enough to implement this. Atmospheric flight and player controlled star destroyers are the things I dream about.

a freighter doesnot have to be large. no larger than the other multy passager ships we have.

heh it was actually part of the original game, was supposed to be tested during phase 3 of SWG beta, but due to time constraints they bumped it to EX1.

This was the picture I had in my mind before I played the game. Cept in my dreamthe cargo was a speederbike.


Yep, atmosperic flight would be where its at.



And yes to the original poster, we need way more freighters. This is the Star Wars Universe, not Flash Gordon.

What would be nice is a small "tramp" freighter not could be used by all factions and neut. The only real freighter in the game now is the YT1300, but that's only for neut.something that everyone could use would like the firespray would make sense.

Like I put in the XWA thread, I think there should be a bunch of ships available to all pilots, regardless of faction.

It could still be based on the skill certifications...

Basically, I would see:

Rookie: Z95b (improved version of the Rebel starter)
Piloting I: YT-1000 ("new"?)
Piloting II: YT-1300
Piloting III: YT-2000 (from XWA)
Piloting IV: YT-2400
Master: Firespray

Each faction would still have all of their own ships (Rebel Z95a through B-Wing / Nova; Imp I'd like restructured to have a standard TIE as a rookie ship (making them tougher than Rebel rookies) with the TIE Defender being their T4 ship), etc.
