you need several things to use a droid in your ship.

1st - a ship that can carry a droid. (Y-Wing and X-Wing) all others use flight computers.

2nd - an astromech droid that fits your certification. for every box in droid commands you gain a gain a new droid certification. thats the max astromech level that oyu can use. the level mainly affects the amount of programs you can store.

3rd - a droid interface has to be placed into your ship.

4th - you have to program the droid. it has been changed since i did that before. try calling it and check the radial menue.

5th - the droid has to be placed into your ship.

after that you have access to the programs you stored into the droid by using ctrl-A in space. astromech tab.

you can use em like skills.

Just as a note, if I remember correctly, player-crafted Z-95's can use astromechs as well.

note #2: you don't need to call the droid to program it.. Just click on it in your datapad, the radial menu will have a "program droid" option. It now brings up a handy interface showing all available programs including chips on the left, and whats on the droid on the right.. add/remove what you want and press the commit button at the bottom.

Word of caution, an astromech style chassis does not automatically mean the droid can be used in a ship. You must purchase a droid with a Data Module. This type of droid will store and run commands, a droid without the module will not.

Rocky, I just went through what your going through. You got to buy a Astromech Droid! I bought a lvl 1 R5 astromech droid...after buying an R5 something else droid (havn't figured out what to do with him)... the level 1 R5 has a disadvantage...he can only hold 2 commands....blah...

Hope that answers the big question..

Yes , Just call it normally. Also it should go back into your ship when you next take off. If you want to get the droid out for good use the manage terminal and remove the droid that way.

oh to add the module you need to look for is astromech for the lvl you can use. Without the astomechmoduleyou can notuse in ships. They are lvl'ed 1-6
