I'm reading about different squadrons and different pilot professions. I know of the Imperial, Freelancer, and Rebel pilot. Where do these squadrons come in to play? I'm just a little confused...thats all.
I was reading that there were 9 squadrons. I am assuming that there are 3 for each pilot profession. This is where I am getting confused.
Lets take for instance where I am. I am at Rebel Pilot 2222. When do I join a squadron? I am assuming that joining a specific squadron is the next step.
I was also reading that the squadrons also have a tier 1, 2, 3, and 4. Does that mean that after mastering one of the squadrons that I have to completely surrender all skills for that particular pilot profession, start over , join a different squadron, and master again?
Last....how does this tie in with xp bonus for mastering one of the pilot professions? The way it sounds is that basically you have to master the professions 3 times in order to master all the squadrons. I read that there is only up to 3x xp bonus.
Could someone please clarify some of this for me? I'm reading alot of stuff about JTL, but none of it seems to tie together for me. It's ok....I know I'm slow.
Thanks,
POW

You join a squadron automaticaly, depending on which of the three teir 1 trainers you initially go to.

The pilot trainer you first talk to is from one of the nine squadrons. And yes, you have to drop all your pilot skills to join a different squadron. I'm not exactly sure in the xp bonus thingies, but I think you have to master the three different pilot professions to get the bonus(eg. you wouldn't get the bonus just for mastering rebel pilot twice, with a different squadron).

And you don't have to change squadrons, you can just stay with the one ya got now and master. The xp thing they are talking about is if you drop Imp., after you master it. Saychoose to go priate (oops privateer), you will get 2x the xp you normally would. Then if you choose to drop freelance and go Reb., you will get 3x, the xpper kill.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I wish I would have known about the 3 squadrons before I started. It now bugs me knowing that, now, I had a choice in which squadron I picked. Where can I find out which squadron I joined?
Last thing, and I will be quiet. With myself being a covert rebel (on leave), will I even be able to do the Imperial pilot profession or will I have to drop my rebel status on the ground if I choose that path?
Thanks,

You cannot join an opposing faction in space anymore, and I am pretty sure you can't even be neutral on the ground while being factioned in space.

its the planet you started on what determines your squadron.
rebel - corellia is havok
rebel - naboo is vortex
rebel - tatooine ?
imp - corellia ?
imp - naboo is inquisition
imp - tatooine is storm
more or less these squadrons are the same (just different missions and trainers)
the freelance thing is a bit different.
the different squadrons have different affiliations to the GCW factions.
naboo - RSF (imp aligned)
corellia - CorSec (rebel aligned)
tatooine - Smuggler Alliance (neutral)
in several advancement missions you have to shoot rebels or imps (RSF/Corsec). this is no problem for freelancers but when you get help from rebels or imps its possible that they cant attack your targets.
e.g. my guild has a lot of rebel pilots and a few RSF ones. the RSF pilots hada hard time finding help on their tier4 advancement missions cause they didnt knew any imp pilots. rebels cant attack rebels.

Just an addition to the freelancer:
Corsec is neutral and Smugglers Alliance is Rebel allied.
(When going for the Corsec master mission, you get to choose if you wanna help the Rebels or the Imps)

imp - Corellia is actually on Talus (Imperial Outpost) and is Black Epsilon Squad.
And I think the Rebel Tatooine Squad is the Phoenix Squad.

And no, Smuggler is not Rebel alligned.
Well more Rebel than Corsec, since you can't choose the corvette (you have to kill the Imperial one), and you kill tons of Imperials during the missions (I really hated that part - I expected Smugglers to most of the time fight wars between Criminal organisations, but 80% of my targets were imps), but more Neutral than RSF is Imperial.
RSF can't shoot imperials, they're white too them, while rebels are red (same as for Imps), while for SA rebels and Imps are yellow, but they can kill both.
Also Smuggler Alliance pilots can declare for either factions (if they're factioned on the ground only!) and they can choose both factions when going to deep space. I think RSF can only declare as Imperial (I might be wrong here)
So i would sort Smuggler Alliance as "Neutral/Anti-Imperial" but not "Rebel"

That would make both Corsec and SA neutral. At least, during the Tier phases. Though I don't think that still applies once you've done the vette.

I did the vette, as smuggler pilot, and still can enter deepspace as rebel or imperial, and outside Kessel both rebel and imperial NPCs are attackable.
