You cant enter space stations and there is no smuggling content...
In fact every Character, be it a Chef or a Master Smuggler can join the Smuggler Alliance (one of the 3 neutral pilot organisations)

I was in Beta (rebel) and I didnt encounter any smuggling style missions.
.... but to be fair I only got up to Tier 2.
As the Neutral Pilots tree has got the YT1300 at the top of it (Han Solo's ship), I would guess that if there were any "smuggling" style missions then they would be there. However, I dont recall anyone having mentioned anythoing like that being around, so i wouldnt get your hopes up.
Also.... yes... there are space stations.
and "yes" ... you can dock with them.... in a manner of speaking.
But sadly it is far from what you are envisaging. I presume you enjoy Elite, Freeelanceror similar?
Sadly there is no actual need to make any docking manouvers with the space stations. They have a waypoint that you fly toward, once you hit the waypoint you can then say that you are docking and you then get dropped back into the ground game. You can also ask for repairs there, but there is no animations or events that take place to show that happening.
It all takes place in the game engine and you dont get to see any of it.
Also, thereare NO interiors for the space stations.
They are simply exterior shells, that represent space stations. They serve no greater role than acting as graphical markers for where you log out of the space game and back into the ground game..... oh... and get repairs.
I can confirm however (due to a cooooool graphics glitch during Beta that accidentally allowed you to spacewalk), that everything in JTL is to scale with a human figure. Even the space stations.
I went for a walk above Corellia for a couple of hours and found one of the landing stations and walked around the outside of it.
If they ever do decide to add the "multi-player" functionality from themultiplayer ships (YT1300, VT49 & the YKL37R), then they are set up for interior environments that would fit within the currently existing space station models.
I hope they do, butwe should consider (for a moment) why they havent implemented this idea.
One of the long term complaints from players is that the static NPC cities planetside rarely have anyone in them.
Due to the (rather nice) wounding and battle fatigue damage that you take when you get shot out of the sky, it will be imperative after two or moresuch events to go and visit your local neighbourhood entertainment palace and heal up.
If they allowed playable spaces inside the space stations, these places would have to fulfill some other role outside of the interior spaces that we are used to using down dirtside. If you had floating cantinas and medbays in these stations I would guarantee you that VERY quickly, there would be very few people around on the planets. By keeping the need to return planetside, the Devs are ensuring that there is a turnover of players between the ground game and the space game, thus forcing interaction between the two.
Im sure that it would be a useful exercise to explore what other uses spaces like these could be put to, without removing players form the ground game for long periods of time.

It would be nice if you had to do the Kessel Run as a mission and dodge Imperial TIE fighters (notice how I do not say engage, as their will be THOUSANDS!!!) and get to Kessel safely

Smuggling in JTL comes with the Smuggler Revamp, which comes after the Combat Balance, which comes after all the JTL patches. Sooo..... sometime next year probably. =(
P.S. to the person who is still a Master Smuggler, I had to give it up over the summer. I got tired of waiting and when I heard the Revamp had been pushed back even further.... couldn't do it =(.
