I'm still kinda new at this starship piloting. I've gotten good at killing the lowbie Tier 1 ships, but on my 3rd mission from the Pilot trainer I need to take down a Tier 2 guy. I've gotten a pretty decent laser weapon upgrade for my ship, but still even getting his shield down to 60% takes forever and it's hard to drop it lower. Is there another weapon I can use with only the basic Pilot skill that will work far better, or do I need some other upgrades to my ship to allow me to actually be able to ultimately kill this guy so I can train a skill and use better stuff already? I'd just skip the quest, but the guy won't train me unless I complete it.
Thanks for any help. noob Pilot in need

You can beat a tier 2 in a prototype noob ship. It just takes quite a bit of practise, works with tier 3 as well.. but thats next-2-impossible to do without help... If you only have 1 tier 3 enemy it´s doable though.
What you need is a High mass noob ship. If you are Rebel then your choice is the Heavy Z-95. And then put better equipment in it. First and foremost Engine/Shield... Armor is negligable.
And a goos set of weapons cant hurt either
Maybe even a booster.

Hmm I'm a Freelance Pilot right now, so not sure I can use a Z-95, though I'm at least covert rebel anyway so maybe I should become a Rebel Pilot.

As a neutral you can get the Heavy Scyk
Which is the same, just looks different
If you were on Chimaera i would simply outfit you witha decent ship and grind you up and show you the ways of a Pilot... but sadly ur on the wrong server

L1 weapons aren't going to call for more mass than you can spare, stay with your current ship. The Dunelizard at 1000 is a very good upgrade, though I'd get Components before it. Anyway, don't expect the shield to go below 50% if you stay on the enemy's tail, the other 50% is covering the front. Armour works the same. Just keep landing shots and don't let the enemy do so (and if the Tier 2 takes a while, take out the two Tier 1s first so you only have one target to worry about).

Well as far as buying any upgrades, credits aren't much of an issue. I might be new to the JTL part of the game but I'm a veteran who returned & made 10 Mil selling just 1 of my rewards so maybe I can find a heavy ship I can fly and load it up with a few things.
