I'm flying for (what's his name) in the back of cantina on Mos Eisley. I'm maxxed in pilot XP, waiting to get my first skill box, basic piloting for example. You need 7500 XP and I seem to be maxxed at 10,000 XP now and I still don't get any training to move up.
I find it very exciting (NOT) going to to do more and more missions knowing I'm not getting anymore XP and my pilot skills/career is going no where right now.
Is the the way it's supposed to be?

MIssions unlock the boxes. Missions are sort of for exp but moreso for actually unlocking the box. Once you open the boxes, and have done all of your missions if you need more exp the trainers give you duty missions which you can run indefinitely until you get all of your exp.

'What's his name' is supposed to offer you training as you gain skill points. Read his radial closely and see if he gives you the option of training!

If it is your first trainer you must complete all of his introductory missions before he will ever train you. Once you complete them he will train both boxes that you have xp saved up for. If you don't finish his missions you can't get training elsewhere unfortunately.

Once you complete the four missions he gives you, then he'll give you one box for free. Then, he will train you as you accumulate the needed xp. Study his conversation options carefully when you speak to him.
TIP: although its tempting, I wouldn't make the box that allows you to fly another type of ship the first box you take. The reason is that although you get a different ship, and one you may like better, it really isn't any better until you are certified for better components. I'd recommend choosing the component box first.

Thanks everyone. I got it now. It was after those training missions basically and I did get 2 first tier boxes after that actually. Built up a lot of XP during those. Cool, on my way and even got a... oh crap, what's it called now, the first ship in the first basic piloting box... anyway, and a lot of custom crap on it, so on my way, cool.

Yes JTL missions can be confusing at first compared to the ground game. Still, glad you have it worked out.

I maxed out earlier than expected yesterday as well. I had already done my basic missions and was doing duty missions when I maxed out at 14250 exp. Keep in mind that I only need 750 more exp to get the second box in tier 1 that I need. So I was forced to land and get trained just to go back up for under 1k exp left over in that tier. That was my only gripe yesterday, since if it went like all other forms of exp I would have maxed out at 15k where I was hoping to be. I guess it was a good thing that I needed to log off anyway. lol
Once I got my ship working well it was amazing to see how fast I wracked in the exp from pirate kills.

Dunelizard, ya that's it. I just can't wait until I master and can actually get one of those Sarasuub's or whatever that CAN be customized with weapons and stuff. Cool ship to make up as a space home.
BTW, if you group with someone to take them up to show them your ship, they have to have JTL as well, I assume...
