So far paint kits for starships have acted l ike those for speeders, with no real interesting differences in the patterns one can create. A while ago someone posted a screenshot of thier y wing with a paint job that had a flame pattern instead of the usual 2 stripe pattern.
How does one apply more artistic patterns to their fighter such as that?
I know I've seen it, but I can't find the damn post with the site's lousy message search.

The markings come from texture kits, not paint kits.
The paint kit just changes the colors of the texture kit-applied pattern.
Got some nice striping on my Sorosuub, and some flames on my Z-95.
Plus, texture kits affect different ships in different ways. A Texture kit Style 6 adds flames to a Z-95, but a 5 does it for a X-Wing. On the Sorosuub, 5 adds curved stripes to the ship's bow.

And, unfortunately, texture kits dont work well on Black Sun ships (as they dont apply the textures to the wing section.) Its kind of funny as they used to work (and man did some of them look great) but the texture kits were broken on the Hutt fighters. They fixed the Hutt fighters and broke the Black Sun fighters. Ah well.

Just use one of the texture kits.
Here's what style 6 looks like on an X-Wing.

Somehow I don't think that the Alliance is too cool about players modifying their ships, but it looks cool nonetheless.
