yah ive had this problem with saber throw and i was practicing dueling with a buddy couple of nights ago and he kept gettting the invalid target thing on me. I have no idea what the cuase is though.

well, if power hit works like most specials with a warmup, if you get hit during that warmup, it cancels the move. That could be that issue. Not sure about the "invalid target" bug.

No. Can't say that I've had this happen to me. Even if someone does attack me while the warmup timer is in progress, my toon eventually finishes out the attack, well, according to the combat log. Are you sure you aren't just missing the animation? Checked combat logs?

I'm positive, because I have tested it over andover with a friend, I do no damage, and right after the warmup is done, i can do the power right after again, or any attack, like the kind you get when u dont even attack. And no I am not being attacked when doing power, which that shouldn't even matter...
