they take a very refined aim to shoot down quickly. to get my lead down i start at the indicator and work my way back toward the ship, a few shots later and youve found the sweetspot, just hammer it with a few salvos and it will explode (those awings blow up nicely dont they).
they really arent that much tougher than a tier5 tie-adv or tie-int if you ask me, and all the other reb npc ships are a joke compared to npc ties at the same tier, and im not even talking about the aggressor here, thats in a league of its own.

You NEED to get one of these. Your giving up so much not having EO2 and WO2 right now. You will be amazed what a difference the droid commnads make.

another thing I thought was worth pointing out...I dont have a droid interface, or flight computer, and I never have. I never learned how to use one; the only items that aren't supplied from space loot on my ship, is the chassis for each tier. And I am not a DE so I cant make a flight computer. But that is beside the point that I dont use one, and maybe they make things incredibly easier; I don't know. But I was doing the first tier 3 mission and after I finished step 1 and 2, there were about 8 A-Wings around me and they demolished me eventually.

btw WO2 is broken, it causes you to drain more energy tahn before, at your lvl get an imp to make you WO3 which is the only one in the line that works and you will be set, always if you have room in your droid get EO3 or just use EO2 which is always good, you will be able to keep up with the a-wings even in a tie/in (which is a very nice ship if you ask me just not enough mass and only 1 weapon). and if you are running out of mass and have enough droid space get a freelance pilot to make reactor overload and capacitator overload 2-3 or whichever will fit in your droid at your lvl and you can now use lvl 1-2 reactors and capacitators with under 2-3k mass which will allow you more room for other useful gear. oh and when you finish ur first teir 3 mission get 3/2/2/2 and use the tie-bomber, it will suck compared to the tie/in at first but it has 190k mass compared tot he 40k mass you are using, load up 2 weapons 2 missile launchers and 1 coutnermeasure and soloing becomes that much easier. but when you are 3/2/2/2 and come accross an a-wing, my advice is to hit hyperspace coordinants as you willhave an impossible time killing them at this level, it takes many flight hours of practice before you can easily dismantle them, i had the same problem with teir4-5 scyyk and z95s as well since they are tiny targets like the a-wing, however they are not as fast so once you find the sweet spot you can destroy them quick.

I also used to run without a droid interface. A-Wings were such a challenge for me that I'd leave them alone. Then I started using WO3, and now they're only a little harder than an X-Wing. A droid interface will be your best friend out there.
Also, I wouldn't recommend completely disabling your target. Targeting the engines is the best tactic, but if your enemy comes to a dead stop, you either have to slow considerably or stop yourself to hit it. At that point you become just as easy to hit as the disabled A-Wing. Instead, I'd recommend targeting the engines and taking them down to about 50%. This slows them down quite a bit but not to the point where you make yourself vulnerable.

Speed is King. If you can get fast enough to keep up with them, they get easier. This isn't easy to do since the Reward Engine nerf, but it can be done. Barring that, you need to slow them down, as suggested, or wait for them to charge at you. if one is heading right for you, slow down, this gives you more time to get hits in.

ok ill get a DE! How important is the command speed?
Not so important when you're talking about the Overload Programs. You can launch in a safe system and take your time booting up. Speed will only matter in combat when you begin to consider Tactical programs like shield mods, and cap>shield shunt.

PS- last night I just "finished" my Awing.
Pre-nerf engine
Reverse engineered Reward cannon
all the necessary droid programs
Her name will be the Death Sled
All the things you have learned thus far will serve you well versus lesser pilots, but pray you don't cross my path in some dark corner of space. muahahahahaha!!!

that loadout sounds quite familiar..... since i got my 92.2 engine turned into a 95.9 and crammed in the tri-cannon re gun, i have yet to get shot down by weapons fire (only a freelancer using his iwin button pilot special).

If you have an average or slow ship then "chasing" A wings is pretty much impossible. You can get lucky and get behind them while they are in a straight line, but this takes a lot of time and you can get teamed up on by then.
My tactic when in one of my slow ships but with good firepower. As the NPC A wing passes you, circle around to face the direction it went, then go dead stop in space. The A wing in question must be aggro'd with you at the time. As the A Wing circles and comes at you, sine you are dead stopped, it will travel in a straight line right at you. Make sure you have a sub system targeted such as Engine or Reactor. Start firing. If you have enough firepower many times you can disable an A wing on that first pass. If nothing else the second pass will do it. Even Tier 5 A Wings can be dropped this way, it just takes two or three passes depending on the damage you dish out. As a side note, if your taking too much damage from them on each head-on pass then use the Shield Heavy Front droid command (I think Rebel pilots can make this) and you can boost your front shields to take more damage. Just don't let something get behind you!
At Master level Ace Pilot NPC A Wings are about the only thing still entertaining to engage. Of course Corvettes can be fun but not as good as dog-fighting.
Do you guys have much player-on-player PVP going on in Space? In Deep Space on our server I can hardly ever find another non-NPC ship to duel/dog-fight against. Not sure when more people are not up there doing PVP since nobody takes decay now in space.
