Thread: Space Mining

In the last 2 weeks i've made roughly 3 million from space resources. Though, I have a deal with my shipwright (who my character also happens to be dating RP wise so it works out).

Basically I gather the resources for her and let her craft the parts and sell them. When a part sells I get the money from that price that was from the space resources. It is priced with the space resources as 100 cpu.

As of now I will not go less than 100 cpu on any of the resources. Since all the equipment is not very good due to all the crafting problems that haven't been fixed I feel this is the price that is worth my time. Besides, I'm on bloodfin and people are loaded on there so I might as well take advantage of that fact.

I get 250k per pob part and 25k per winglet/strake sold.

I'd suggest working out a deal like this with a shipwright. At least one you can trust to pay you. Since the resources take a while to get a large amount and each pob part takes roughtly 2500 units per part selling just the resources would be harder since they'd want to buy in bulk.

With the way I do it I just harvest when I feel like it and if the shipwright has a special order waiting to be done I can just go and get the stuff immediately if needed.

How big a hold can a SW craft? The one I got from the mining quest only holds 1000 units...

A large cargo hold can currently hold 1550. It should be able to go higher, but that's a SW crafting issue.

Mining is insanly boring because to make good money you have to sell it in >10k lots which take me about 2 hours. (I am pretty fast at mining it is the landing in between filling the cargo hold that slows it down). However, I can make enough money to keep me in parts and only spend about 5 hours a week mining.

I pay 50cpu for Asteroid Sources and I purchase anything offered to my vendor. So with a guaranteed buyer I think you can do pretty well. I'm still having trouble getting miners, but they are slowly trickling in.

Hello All,

Just got into JTL after grinding out MBH and MCM planetside. I was hoping someone could explain space mining to me. How to? Ships to use? Components? Anything you can offer. Still flying a Scyk but have leveled up some and want to buy the right things from the get go. Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Kkat

I believe there was a Friday Feature about Space Mining a while back. I'm short on time or I'd look it up.

Edit: It was a Tuesday Tip that also linked to a page describing a lot about the mining system

For space mining, you'll need a cargo hold and a mining laser (and a tractor beam if you want it, though I never use it). You can get the cargo hold and mining laser two ways; one way is from a Shipwright, but these require asteroid resources and usually go for a pretty penny. The second was is through the mining quest (talk to Flash Harrison in the Great Tree of Kachirho), and sooner or later through the quests you'll get a number of lasers and cargo holds, then a Y-8 mining vessel deed as the end reward.

Load in the cargo hold and a mining laser (or two) onto your ship-- the mining laser fits on a weapon slot-- then launch into space and find a mineable asteroid. You can find these in any space sector, though each sector has different resources. They're listed as POIs, I believe, so you can look them up there. You can also tell a mining asteroid as they're a green blip on your radar.

To mine it, blast away at the asteroid with your mining laser until a large chunk breaks off. Blast away at the large chunk until it breaks off into a group of smaller chunks, then blast at all of those and they'll go into your cargo hold. Simple as that.

There's a chance mining pirates may attack you, however, as you mine. So be cautious.

When you want to unload your cargo and get your asteroid resources, land on a planet, open up your datapad, select your ship and hit "empty cargo hold" (the name may be different, I can't remember exactly). The resources will then be placed into your inventory.
Make sure you have room in your inventory, or you resources will disappear! You only need one (two to be safe) spots in your inventory, for each resource goes into a container.

As for ships to use... use whatever serves you best. But do use something that has atleast two weapon slots, so you can have one mining laser and regular laser, so you can fend yourself off better if you're attacked.
I use a Grevious' fighter as my mining ship, and have a level three mining laser and a level six or seven weapon laser on it, then a 1501 cargo hold. It'sa pretty good ship to use for mining, for me anyway. Other good ships are Krayts, X-Wings, Jedi Starfighters, B-Wings, TIE Bombers, and ships like that.

I spent all day space mining to make vehicle restoration kits....all day got me enough to make 4 kits....YAY.

Anyway, space mining needs to be more efficient. I tried to 2 man my Y8...LOL. That lasted 10 minutes. Then I went and made a Heavy Xwing. That worked pretty good, but to kills those damn gnats (Tier 1 TIEs), I wanted another gun (I use 2 Mining lasers). So I outfitted a BWing to be a miner. That worked great, but the maneuverability SUCKS when you are going 400. Then a shipwright made me a large cargo hold and my capacity went from 1000 to 1550. He also said he could make me a large hold for my Nova....

So out I went and got all he needed to make that large cargo hold and I was drooling to think about just parking my nova 500 off a roid and just keep picking off chunks with the top turret. So I got all lined up and started shooting and nothing. The mining laser did squat. I will get what I need so he can make a class 3 mining laser and try it then. Otherwise a cargo hold for a POB ship is worthless.

Space mining needs to be more efficient. It is a pain in the butt. I should not need to recruit 50 people to crew my Y8 and mining has to go faster than that.

Also, the 2 carbon-------- astroids in the naboo system are both within 1k of the edge of the system...makes it difficult to mine and lastly, on the carbon-------- rock #2, please remove that static spawn of tier 1 TIE fighters.....OMG SO DAMN ANNOYING. They cannot hurt me....just drives me insane!!!

The Y8 mining ship is a master cert'd ship.

Any ship your cert'd for can be used as a mining ship, just add a cargo hold and mining laser (minimum). Craft with 2 or more weapon slots are better suited since you can use a mining laser and a tractor beam in it. I've used a Rihk for mining and now use a Krayt while my friend uses a Y-Wing LP for mining.

Hope this helps
